Trump and his aides take hard line on border wall, as threat of government shutdown looms
Washington Post ^ | Apr. 23, 2017 | Sean Sullivan

President Trump and his top aides applied new pressure Sunday on lawmakers to include money for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border in a must-pass government funding bill, raising the possibility of a federal government shutdown this week.

In a pair of tweets, Trump attacked Democrats for opposing the wall and insisted that Mexico would pay for it “at a later date,” despite his repeated campaign promises not including that qualifier. And top administration officials appeared on Sunday shows to press for money for the wall, including White House budget director Mick Mulvaney, who said Trump might refuse to sign a spending bill that does not include money for the wall.

Are you kidding? I’m SURE under Trump we will SAVE money under a govt shutdown. I hope it lasts a month.

Use the saved money to build the wall :)

I bet republicans in congress were 100 percent for repealing obamacare AND funding the wall.

Until they might actually be able to do it.

Migrate legally. I have NO PROBLEM with legal immigration. I have a HUGE problem with illegal, sneaky border crossings, especially through tunnels; anchor babies, sanctuary cities, freedom cities, "One Human Family" B.S., amnesty, dreamers, expired visas, etc etc etc. Build the damned wall. If you want to live here, go through the legal process like the thousands who have done it before you. Learn to speak and write English. Assimilate with our culture. Relinquish your allegiance to the country of your birth. Become a naturalized US citizen. Can't do that? THEN STAY THE HELL OUT!

Said it before and I’ll say it many more times: Shut the gubment down, I’ll be better off without it. I can’t think of one positive thing the gubment at any level has done for me in ages.

A shutdown like 2013 where non-essential employees were sent home with full pay would give the president and his staff a chance to review what parts of the federal leviathan within his jurisdiction can be 86’d.
Think of it as a real budgeting process, instead of yet another stop-gap, short-term “lick and a promise” from our feckless critters.

“non·es·sen·tial”
adjective: non-essential
1. not absolutely necessary.
“during the strike nonessential hospital services were halted”
synonyms: unnecessary, inessential, unessential, noncore, needless, unneeded, superfluous, uncalled for, redundant, dispensable, expendable, unimportant, extraneous

Why keep paying for non-essential federal services and workers who, by the government’s own definition, aren’t needed?

And considering that a lot of these paper-pushers are Democrats, by the time the dust settles the Democrats may better understand the expression, “Be careful what you wish for.”
Oh yeah, and make them use the same furlough protocols they used four years ago when they treated it like a paid vacay from Uncle Sugar.
None of this, “Why, this time we’re ALL essential.”
And maybe the president can arrange a much longer vacation for these porn/clock-watching, lazy, partisan Brazil drones.

Obama shut down the activities that impacted to public the most. Trump should do the reverse and shut down the items that impact the Liberals the most.

Illegal immigration is costing the country tens of billions of dollars annually.

The wall will save money and be worth far more to the economy than the cost of building it.

There’s not one Trumper who will fault him for doing everything possible to build the wall!

Concur; he ran on it, and Mexico will pay for it later one way or another.

This is exactly what needs to be repeated over and over again. Even the most budget-hawk-esque conservatives have to recognize that stopping the flow is what will pay for the wall.

Trump realizes that a “government shutdown” is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Only “essential services” will be opened and Trump will use this to ask why the government is providing non-essential services.

Who blinks, Trump or Congress. And after Trump failed to keep his day one promised revoke amnesty for illegal aliens, this becomes a real question rather than a no-brainer.

Since Trump runs the treasury, and not Obama, I think he’ll have no problems spending only tax receipts with no borrowed money.

That’s a 33% cut and he’s already telling them to expect 20%.

Pay the employees.
Pay Ssn.
Fund the military.

I say it’s doable.

If these jerks want to prove that, then try to extort him. Let’s see where that will get them.

It only worked before because of a president who selectively chose to not pay people so he would get an uproar.

Sooner rather than later is better for Trump to pop this pimple known as Republicans run and hide under their desk when the Democrats and their media whisper “shutdown”.

I argue its better to go ahead and DO IT now in the first several months and as far away as he can be from Nov 2018.

At some point, Trumps going to have to SHUTDOWN the Uni Party from spending and borrowing. This is a great opportunity to close entire departments while asserting that no more money will be borrowed for social give aways. Illustration: “Uniparty” you want 5 billion for something, close something, like the Energy Department or 850 of the 1,100 agencies in the government.

Even worse for the Dims and the media, Trump is nearly immune from their apparitions and cries in the night.

They’ve already thrown everything at him they could reach or invent and he won. And now he has the full power of the Presidency.

If he doesn’t sign, she’s shut down until he does. And there’s nothing or nobody else in the world that can change that without a 2/3 majority in both the House and the Senate.

And that will never happen.
