Royce and Keri Young are greeting and saying farewell to their daughter, Eva, who was born Tuesday with the sole purpose of giving life to others.
Keri Young knew during her pregnancy that her daughter would be born with anencephaly, a birth defect that prevents the proper formation of the brain. They were told that because of this, the baby would likely not survive for long. In a selfless act of courage, she asked if the newborn's organs could be harvested. When she learned this was possible, she decided she would carry the baby to full term. ***
"Will people judge us for what we've decided? Will people think we're doing a brave and courageous thing even though we feel like we're 2 inches tall?" Keri Young said in a post. "We are now the 'thoughts and prayers' people. Oddly, that was hard to see. I've opened up to the thought of holding my daughter and watching her die. That's going to happen. We will leave the hospital without a baby. That is our reality. But we accept it."
Royce Young, a sports writer for ESPN.com, described their family's ongoing journey in touching detail.
"This whole process has been rough, but I say that as someone watching from the bleachers like the rest of you," Royce Young boasted about his wife. "Keri has been in the trenches the entire time, feeling every little kick, every hiccup and every roll. She's reminded every moment of every day that she's carrying a baby that will die."
Tuesday the Youngs welcomed Eva and shared a photo of their young family, with the newborn swaddled in a blanket and wearing a soft-pink hat.
"We said hello and goodbye to our sweet Eva Grace yesterday. Eva Grace Young -- 4-17-17," Royce Young wrote on Facebook.

A true nut case!
.
Saw this a while back.. I gather it was abort the little one or give birth and let it die “of natural causes” and donate the organs.
rather selfless of the mother IMO
IMHO, there was no ‘right’ choice for this couple.
There were only a set of alternatives to consider, and I think they made the best choice, as hard as it was.
How much money is involved in this selfless act of courage? Apparently that’s of no concern either.
Huh? The usual “treatment” for anencephaly is abortion. She decided to carry the baby to term so that even though the baby would die anyway that maybe others could be saved. It is a horrible choice of two bad options.
You can’t seriously criticize them for carrying the baby to term if you are against abortion. When a fetus has a fatal defect, do you abort it, let it be born only to die and be buried, or perhaps save a life with organ donations? Extremely difficult choice and one I’m grateful to never have to make.
Just curious....what should they have done differently?
Abort the baby as soon as they found out it was unhealthy?
Deliver the baby and but then not donate it’s organs to another sick baby?
That little soul will live in glory.
Very obvious in the story that the couple looked upon this child as their loving baby and not as something to discard...
They held and loved their child for a moment and gave the little girl their love and hearts...
More than many babies get at Planned parenthood....
Are you against abortion? If yes, then why do you criticize the mother for not aborting her baby? If the baby is terminal at birth, then what is the harm in donating her organs so others might live?
>>A true nut case!<<
Not the way I read it. What would you have done KNOWING the baby would die immediately post-partum?
The easy decision would have been to just abort and go on with life, like tossing away a dish cloth.
This was a VERY hard road to walk — it involved more pain than I can possibly imagine sustaining.
The Lord blessed these people with an amazing amount of love, generosity and strength.
I am humbled.
My prayers go up for this family.
“A true nut case!”
What are you talking about? They should have aborted the baby?

The question I have to ask is: did they kill the baby or did it die on its own? If they killed the baby to harvest the organs then this is really bad. In what manner did this baby die before they started cutting her up?
Should she have aborted the child?
I cannot imagine having to live through that. They have my prayers and respect.
Your ignorance is startling. You should refrain from posting on public forums if you are going to spill stupidity all over the forum.
Minutes? Weeks? Months? Is it legal to kill this baby? But, I can see where this is okay, but it sounds like maybe a mercy killing.
Or to put it another way, how do you determine brain death when there is literally no brain?
