During Wednesday’s White House briefing, NBC reporter Hallie Jackson asked if President Trump was “expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily,” referring to Georgia’s special congressional election. In response, Press Secretary Sean Spicer blasted the absurd liberal media narrative that it was a “symbolic” or “emotional” victory for Democrats despite their candidate falling short.

"“I thought that some of the coverage was a little intriguing as I watched it....Democrats went all in on this race. They spent over $8.3 million. They said on the record that their goal was to win this race. They lost. And the reaction has somewhat been, you know, that they almost won. No, they lost,” Spicer declared.

Jackson interjected by pointing to the upcoming runoff between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel in June: “Technically there’s still two months left though, right?” Spicer pushed back: “No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. They said that their goal last night was to win the race with over 50%....They didn’t run for a runoff, they ran to win last night, and they lost.”

He lectured the journalists in the room: “And so, anything sort of describing that as a loss is – is sort of inconceivable to me in the sense that that’s literally what they said their goal was to do....They put all the money that they had in there, they put all the firepower, and they came up short. HALLIE JACKSON: I want to ask about GA – Georgia 6th here. Two quick ones on that. Is the President planning to campaign for the Republican challenger there? Will he go to Georgia to get out the vote?  

SEAN SPICER: I don't know. If needed, I think the President’s going to make sure that he does everything he can to maintain majorities and further the party. But we’ll see if we’re needed.

JACKSON: Is he expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily?

Let’s not kid ourselves — the huge Republican circular firing squad nearly blew it. The Democrats do teamwork far better than the Republicans.

In what sense did they lose? A Democrat got the most votes. In the runoff, it’s no sure thing. Ossoff was very close to getting a majority. So, Handel doesn’t have a lot of margin for error. She doesn’t automatically get 51.4% of the vote.

For all the roiling anger and energy at the grass roots, the party still fell short in Georgia and Kansas. And Democratic prospects in upcoming elections aren't promising.

As it became clear late Tuesday evening that Jon Ossoff would fall just short of the 50-percent mark in the first round of voting in a suburban Atlanta special election, Democrats back in Washington started leafing through their calendars and asking: When does the winning start?

Ossoff’s 'moral victory' — capturing 48 percent of the vote in a conservative-oriented district — was welcome, but after two successive close-but-no-cigar finishes in House special elections in Georgia and Kansas, a new worry is beginning to set in.

For all the anger, energy, and money swirling at the grass-roots level, Democrats didn’t manage to pick off the first two Republican-held congressional seats they contended for in the Trump era, and the prospects aren’t markedly better in the next few House races coming up: the Montana race at the end of May, and the South Carolina contest on June 20.

Their best shot at knocking Donald Trump down a peg appears to be Ossoff’s runoff against Republican Karen Handel, also scheduled for June 20. But the Democrat will be an underdog in that contest, when there won’t be a crowded field of Republicans to splinter the vote.

After that, it’ll be a further five months before the New Jersey and Virginia elections for governor, leaving some strategists and lawmakers wondering how to keep the furious rank-and-file voters engaged in fueling and funding the party’s comeback (Excerpt) Read more at nation.foxnews.com ...

A Democrat who had the entire Establishment media pushing for him, who spent over $8 million when his nearest competitor spent $75 thousand, who had volunteers from all over the country come to the district to get out the vote.

The Democrats threw everything they had into this election, and they still could not get a majority against a fragmented opposition.

They did it because they know they will lose a one on one race with a Republican.
