A former United States Marine who traveled to New Jersey with a gun he legally owned but which was not registered in New Jersey is facing three years in prison for firearm law violations.
The three years is the minimum sentence that former Marine Sergeant Hisashi Pompey has to serve before he can even be eligible for parole under New Jerseys strict gun control laws.
ABC 7 reports that Pompey did three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan for which he received medals for bravery. He was a military police sergeant.

“If the law supposes that,” said Mr. Bumble, squeezing his hat emphatically in both hands, “the law is a ass - a idiot”........................
Why any freedom loving gun owner would even set foot in New Jersey is beyond me.
What a disgusting way to treat a man who has served his country with distinction.
Chris Christie could free him this afternoon. Someone call his office.
Time to put the hammer down on the Peoples Republic of New Jersey and the other communist states in the Northeast!
This not only a Constitutionally protected right, but this is one of America’s best (being a Marine) to boot, as if it needs to be pointed out.
Most of NJ’s political system is corrupted and don’t know what Christie can do in the short term. But he now has a friend in the WH that should be taken advantage of.
It ain't easy...
Given the new political climate I keep hoping that enough states will adopt Constitutional Carry and that New Jersey will rise with the tide.
I'm not holding my breath.
Why haven’t all these draconian Gun COntrol Laws at the State level been found unconstitutional on the grounds that they interfere with Interstate Commerce?? Seems like an Easy Win.
Dumbass. His real offense was failure to secure his gun against being taken by his idiot friend, plus being stupid enough to associate with a guy who would bring a gun to a "police confrontation".
That said, unless there are issues we are not being told, he does not deserve prison.
There’s no way that states should have individual gun *ownership* laws any more than they should have individual laws regarding the press...worship...the Fifth Amendment, etc.
TYRANNY!
This is the case we need to go to the scotus.
Watched Tucker the other night talking to some lawyer about the Texas voter ID issue. He kept bringing up other “rights” that “require” some sort of govt issued ID and, as would be be expected, she ignored his repeated attempts to try to make his point. Same old “Well that’s not the same thing.” defense.
New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, California and Connecticut are communist states which do not recognize the 2nd Amendment.
Living in Pennsyvania — which is a “shall issue” state— you have to be careful about driving in any direction which may involve crossing a border. The surrounding states have very restrictive gun laws and they take every opportunity to stick it to Pennsylvanians
The subject of this case is exceptional, IMO. 3 tours of duty AND a military policeman. What happened to professional courtesy?
If it weren’t for police dash & body cams recording everything possible the Jersey cop might have cut this guy a break at the scene and nothing more would have come from it. No leeway now.
Communist Countries do not like their residents to own guns. How else will they oppress the people, but by keeping them unarmed?
It does appear Pompey engaged in more than simple possession.
It’s time to sunder the nation. New England, downstate Pennsylvania, downstate New York, New Jersey, and Maryland need to be ejected from the Nation. (on the West Cost, the western portions of California, Washington, and Oregon also need to go.) No, we can’t all get along.
Stories like this show us why we can NEVER trust liberals with crafting gun control laws of any kind EVER. This Marine is now the laughing stock of the liberal scumbags in Trenton who beat their “oh so pious” breasts over “take downs of THEM” while the real gun violence body counts grow in Newark Trenton, Jersey City and Patterson. Fakes phonies frauds- all of them!
He can issue a pardon.
Republican Gov. Chris Christie has pardoned a Philadelphia woman facing gun charges and jail time after a traffic stop in New Jersey in 2013. Shaneen Allen was arrested in October 2013 in Hamilton Township after telling a state trooper she had a handgun and a concealed-carry permit.
