U.S. forces have dropped what is known as the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan. The device is the largest non-nuclear device in the Air Force arsenal, Fox News' Jennifer Griffin reported. It was dropped in Nangarhar Province, an eastern area near the Pakistan border. It's the first time the 21,000-pound ordnance has been used in combat, said Griffin. The device, developed in 2003 by the U.S. Air Force, is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's often referred to as the "mother of all bombs." Watch the report above.

First they have to be open to the surface so that when the MOAB which is a fuel enriched (very very large) high explosive goes off will pull all of the oxygen from out of the tunnel complex virtually killing any living thing in the tunnel.
I believe it was and your question was a very good one after all the jibberish posts ahead of you. I am positive the American forces in SK have the tunnels mapped and now they are just trying to device a plan to open, and then kill all living breathing things that exist in those tunnel complexes.

I had the same initial reaction. My whole body tightened up, a giant cringe. Slowly getting over it. Don’t know if it is a mama bear thing on my part but as I learn more about this bomb, I’m settling into the fact that it was a good thing. I needed a lot longer than an hour, though.
