Full title..................'United are worse than the Viet Cong': Doctor's daughter and lawyer speaks out and reveals NO one from United has called to apologize and he has lost his teeth, has a concussion and has to undergo reconstructive surgery................The man who was bloodied and dragged from an overbooked United Airlines flight said the treatment he received at the hands of police 'storm troopers' was more horrifying than when he left Vietnam during the fall of Saigon.
Attorney Thomas Demetrio launched into an attack on the airline, while defending his client during a press conference in Chicago on Thursday morning.
'Heres the law pure and simple. If you are going to eject a passenger, under no circumstance, can it be done with unreasonable force or violence,' he said.
'If unreasonable force of violence is used the common carrier United Airlines in this case is responsible.

Dao shouldn't have come back on the plane either.
Further reinforcing the narrative that this is nothing more than a money grab at this point.
It also suggests that the doctor's daughter is a dingbat Democrat, too.
Dao was symptomatic of a concussion... probably not in his right mind at that time and, in his own words, he wanted to go home.
“Worse than the Viet Cong”??
Uhh...he’s *alive*, for starters....
In his dazed condition, he just wanted to get his laptop before someone made off with it. We live in a rotten world.
$$$$$$
The most basic question is I have of this daughter, Crystal Pepper, is how old was she when she saw her last Viet Cong in the country of her father.
Dude should have done like his was told the first time. If I was the judge I would make him reimburse United and the security group for all of the time they wasted when he didn’t get up and walk off like he was instructed to. If he fussed about that start the discussion about the passengers’ lost time too.

Not worse than Hitler though...
So there’s that
I’m with the airline AND cops on this- he should have been thrown in jail.
I like doctors that don’t get caught.
Did the Vietcong force him to trade opiates for sex with female addicts? This guy is a douchebag, Any $$$ he gets should be given to programs for opiate addiction or to build the border wall
I have a different view.
An airplane is like a ship and the captain has control and is responsible for the lives of the people he is carrying.
If a passenger refuses a captains orders, and then creates a raucus (or in this case forces the captain, the crew or the airport to use force) then he should be thrown out of the airplane.
More than that, the passenger should be sued by the airline for all the losses the airline suffered due to the incident, the loss due to time lost at the terminal, the loss in compensation to the other passengers, the loss in intangibles of the company (drop in stock price). There should be criminal charges as well, for trespassing or resisting being removed.
A captain simply can not have this kind of behavior on his ship, that could potentially put in danger the lives of the other passengers.
What the heck? he resisted and had to be dragged out!
My gut feeling still tells me they went down the list of names, found his and said, “The Asian guy won’t give us any trouble.”
What about “Varmint Cong”?
There are many kinds of ex-pat vietnamese. A friend survived the “killing fields” of the VC and khmer rouge “re-education camps”. He was arrested in Saigon at the medical school the US supported, working at the hospital where he got his degree. Arrested because he wore glasses. Escaped with NO paperwork and by his own wiles on a Chinese junk to Japan and thence to Calif, and Loma Linda Univ. where he was “re-degreed” when they realized he was far more knowledgeable than just someone to take blood samples.
This Dr. has many many problems— all of which put him in the clutches of two nasty chi-town airport cops who are junior G men with perhaps an animus against orientals, and liked their work. Bottom line— his wife left and he refused. His “work” is restricted by KY board of medicine because of drug abuse-addiction problems, undercover police investigation of gay sex for drugs with one of his patients, and 98 counts of illegal narcotic prescribing. He works one day a week in a monitored public clinic (all his pt. records are filed with the Board). Maybe he had Monday hours, maybe not.
United is well within federal guidelines on the control of the occupants of their aircraft, safety regs as well as the neccesity for making room for rested flight crew needed in Louisville. They should not settle period, but they should review how this is presented to the public— with the facts clearly put. There were over 100 other people affected who had zero say in this guy’s choice of behaviour, before and during this encounter.
Sit her down and make her watch The Deer Hunter 100 times.
we're going to get this crap "poor me" mantra for ever....
why didn't he just get up like the cops told him too?....
joint and several, UAL and airport cops. let them slug each other for who is more at fault. excessive violence by airport cops acting upon invitation by UAL. 4th A. 8th A. 42 USC 1983.
I am rather shocked that one of the Flight attendants did not at least bring his carry-on stuff to him.
Given the situation, guess I should not be surprised.
