US Chief Justice Roberts decries "partisan hostility"

The “partisan hostility” surrounding the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch is of concern because it could undermine public confidence in the apolitical nature of the judicial system, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday at a college appearance in upstate New York.

The appearance a day after Gorsuch was sworn in by President Donald Trump at the White House was billed as a conversation with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson. Jackson talked with Roberts onstage before about 1,200 students, faculty and guests, some of whom asked him questions. […]

“We in the judiciary do not do our business in a partisan, ideological manner,” Roberts said. “The new justice is not a Republican or a Democrat; he’s a member of the Supreme Court. But it’s hard for people to understand that when they see the process that leads up to it.” …

That’s funny stuff. The black-robe fascists are inches away from being physically removed by the American people. The president and Congress have one last chance to remove these judges before 50 million patriots fix bayonets and righteously take back their country from these unelected, treasonous snakes.

Chief Justice Roberts smells an OVERTURN of his asinine affordable care act decision coming and is scrambling to minimize the fallout by preparing the public to believe that it would be partisan if the SC were to do so

The Court has become very partisan.

There is the group that respects the rule of law, and there is the group that does not.

For 60 years the group that did not respect the rule of law ruled the Supreme Court. There has been a 10 year period where Kennedy would swing one way or the other.

That situation has been restored with Gorsuch.

One more justice with integrity, and the rule of law side will have an advantage.

The Supreme Court is primarily to blame for the partisanship. Just apply the law as it is written.

It’s also hard to understand when you see some of the SCOTUS rulings.

Of course not. There's nothing partisan or ideological about it. It's just a matter of doing what you're told to do, isn't it Johnnie boy?

Roberts and Gorsuch are close personal friends of many years.

Will the hostility to Roberts’ friend affect the way Roberts relates to Gorsuch on the court? Will it affect the way they both team up, or don’t team up on certain issues? Will it impact (or not) the opinion they have of certain lawyers and cases that go the the SCOTUS?

Obama still has anything he got on Roberts for the Obamacare decision (and Rice all but said he’s got stuff). Blackmail doesn’t end once you give in unless you can be sure the evidence has been destroyed. And Roberts cannot be sure.

That ship sailed with the "New Deal" decisions, and ramped into high gear with all sorts of judicial shenanigans since then.

The courts are to blame for the way people perceive the courts.

Forget the preening about judges being non-partisan. Most judges are political and partisan, especially on collegial courts. They are duty-bound not to express such views in public, but in private, among friends and colleagues, most judges are intensely political.

Why should anyone want to get along with progressives? They need to be defeated and humiliated, not tolerated.
