The partisan hostility surrounding the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch is of concern because it could undermine public confidence in the apolitical nature of the judicial system, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday at a college appearance in upstate New York.
The appearance a day after Gorsuch was sworn in by President Donald Trump at the White House was billed as a conversation with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson. Jackson talked with Roberts onstage before about 1,200 students, faculty and guests, some of whom asked him questions. [ ]
We in the judiciary do not do our business in a partisan, ideological manner, Roberts said. The new justice is not a Republican or a Democrat; hes a member of the Supreme Court. But its hard for people to understand that when they see the process that leads up to it.

Oh shut up. It’s just a tax Chief Justice.
I can’t believe he said this. After saddling us, single-handedly, with Obamacare, he said this.
The Supreme Court is “apolitical”?
Riiiiggghhttt.
Maybe Republican or Democrat
But very much American or anti-American
It’s always insightful to watch them pretend not to be political
These people live in make believe land with our money - this guy is a maroon!
Precisely.
I do believe there would be a hell of a lot less rancor if not for Justice Roberts’ asinine and indefensible ruling about an imaginary Obamacare tax.
[We in the judiciary do not do our business in a partisan, ideological manner, Roberts said.]
Sheer bullshit.
for instance re you changing the meaning of a fine to a tax in the ACA, Justice Roberts, you're a bit late on that statement
Somebody yanking his chain again with incidental surveillance?
Changing laws instead of interpreting them in accordance with the Constitution causes people to lose confidence and become more partisan and distrustful of government.
Says the guy who changed his opinion of Obamacare in the middle of writing it. A highly suspect act that smacks of outside interference.
All we ask is that Justice Gorsuch is not blackmailable, Chief Justice Roberts.
You are free to resign.
[[We in the judiciary do not do our business in a partisan, ideological manner, Roberts said.
We do it in a manner that that is compliant with the threats from the democrats who have dirt on us, sure, but by golly not in an ideological manner- nope- no sireebob
Hike up your lacy panties, Chief Justice!
Would I be jaded to find this kind of hypocrisy quite believable out of his mouth?
