Eric Trump: Ivanka Convinced President Trump to Strike Syria

President Donald Trump's 33-year-old son Eric told Britain's The Daily Telegraph that his sister Ivanka, rather than her husband Jared Kushner, convinced the U.S. head of state to launch 59 Tomahawk missiles in retaliation for a sarin gas attack last week.

"Ivanka is a mother of three kids and she has influence. I'm sure she said 'listen, this is horrible stuff.' My father will act in times like that," Eric Trump told The Telegraph in an interview at the Trump Turnberry golf resort in Ayrshire, Scotland.

"He also confirmed that President Trump's decision to bomb a Syrian airbase ... was influenced by the reaction of his sister Ivanka, who said she was 'heartbroken and outraged' by the atrocity," the British paper reported.

Well, it sure took the Russian rigging of the election story off the front page. LOL

It’s strange really. I wouldn’t have pegged him to be a politician, but he may wind up showing us he’s the greatest one of all time.

Gee, a President deceiving reporters in order to advance one of his objectives. Never happens.

You should realize how shaky your position is when you have to frequently ascribe motives to others which are not in evidence. The president expressed real emotion and that definitely, as he said, influenced his decision.

He also explained his emotional reaction when saying he could not begin removal procedures on the so-called dreamers. He used that to explain why he did not keep his promise to reverse Obama's EO on his first day in office.

Pretend whatever you want to pretend, but President Trump himself is explaining his big heart and his emotional reactions and how they have affected his decision making. He's also done that to explain some of his actions as a private citizen and businessman.

In a subtle way you make President Trump sound like a weak, knee jerk lib acting on emotion.

Translation: He fooled you.

He's been more conservative than any President in recent memory in first 80 days in office.

You would have been pissing your pants when Reagan made some of the mistakes he did (amnesty for illegals, training Bid Laden, agreeing to tax increases).

Anything less than perfection and, like any other snowflake, you can't handle it.

Except that’s not a realistic scenario following some missiles on Assad.

I hear ya. As my post points out, I don’t suppose I know whose sarin it was. Seems like it was Assad’s, but maybe not!

So only if Trump is wrong, and if sometime later everyone learns that, and if that is a huge deal somehow, and if ..... then Trump did the wrong thing. Which redounds badly how after all that?

I think Trump’s immediate calculus is pretty good. The odds of having been right are high (though not perfect). The immediate wins are many (see my original post). The lagging losses if he is wrong are later and low cost. So on balance, I think it is a solid win even if he’s later proved wrong.

ISIS will keep receiving it’s daily dose of American military might.

Last week, we were out of the Syrian war. Today we are out of the Syrian war. For a few minutes a few days ago, we were “in” the Syrian war. I don’t think Trump supporters are so fickle as to abandon him over this. It’ll pass. They’re rooting for their guy! (I’m not one of them, I’m just observant....)

A military confrontation with Russia could quickly escalate to the use of nuclear weapons. Russia can not win a confrontation in Syria restricted to conventional arms, however it might be able to win using nuclear arms.

Let loose the dogs of war and no one knows where they will run.

Yeah. Voted for him and haven't turned on him.

I am concerned that soetoro had 8 yes to embed Islamic sympathizers, poofters, commies and assorted America haters throughout the upper levels of intelligence and the military.

Is he getting reliable intelligence and counsel?

Do they actually believe that Russia will drop Assad and their only port in the Med?

If he does leave who takes over? Iran or Turkey maybe?

Is the President willing to put more US troops in another desert hell hole?

And then there's the idea of playing chicken with the Russian bear.

>Is he getting reliable intelligence and counsel?

Nope. I pointed out in an early thread that the intel community is feeding Trump lies on Syria.

Regardless of how Trump decided, this information probably should not have come out. It smacks of “Daddy, Daddy, make the mean man stop, look at these terrible pictures on my Facebook feed!”

The claim that anybody cajoled DJT into anything is laughable. She may have desired that action and told him so. That does not make her the match that lit the fuse.

If you’re a man, that’s why you’re “giving her a pass”. She is Amy Carter. Grown up, gorgeous and dangerous. I’m sick of this stuff from the men. If you’re not a man, I apologize (to you) but I’m still sick of it.

“The Navy will launch 59 frying pans instead of cruise missiles?”

Yours is the only comment I liked on this whole thread. :-)

But I’m off. I’m steaming.

“Do they have similar outrage over the 50+ million abortions in the US since Roe vs Wade? Will we see missile strikes on clinics performing partial birth abortions? Will Planned Parenthood face any penalties for selling baby parts? The death of babies in a chemical weapon strike is offensive. However, not more offensive than any other abuse and murder of children.”

Good questions. And absolutely correct.

Be careful of hit jobs on Trump. They want to make him look indecisive by saying Ivanka is making the decisions.

There are many aspects to being a successful politician. Two of them are controlling the media narrative and making deals that everyone can agree to even though they ultimately advance your own political ends. I think he does well at the first. The jury is still out on the second.
