Donald Trump’s Pick For Top Economic Adviser Is Pro-Immigration, Pro-Outsourcing
Breitbart ^ | April 9, 2017 | Penny Star

Posted on 04/10/2017 1:00:41 PM PDT by Truth29

President Donald Trump has picked an economic advisor who believes in growing the nation’s economy by importing workers and consumers, and by expanding free-trade outsourcing, despite Trump’s “buy American, hire American” campaign promises. Kevin Hassett is slated to become chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors if he is approved by the Senate’s banking committee. If Hassett is confirmed, that will be a win for the corporatist, business-first faction in Trump’s White House, which fights for influence in the Oval Office against the populist, America-first faction that helped Trump win the election in November.

Here’s an idea.

How about you wait and see about whether he actually breaks any promises AFTER he acts instead of whining about what he MIGHT do.

Problem here on FR is too many look at Trump in the same way the look at run of the mill politicians.

I believe that is true.

I’m sure to more folk than I would like to think, it looks like I will follow in behind Trump no matter what he does.

With regard to RyanCare, I didn’t. I urged caution to our people, and I wrote Trump a letter trying to warn him of how implementing RyanCare would betray those who backed him. I also complimented him on a lot of what he has done, and urged caution.

This guy is different. If you consider everything he has done so far, it’s just freaking hard to believe. On one thread his men are telling government agencies to get ready for massive downsizing.

Folks, this administration is a game-changer.

If folks can’t find something to be happy about right now, as it relates to Trump, they must study up and realize how he is running circles around every president we’ve had since the early 1900s, and perhaps to our founding.

Reagan was excellent and I’ll never lose any respect for the effort he put in. He was in a very rarefied class. He still is.

Trump is just mowing down the issues we’ve had to cringe and deal with for the last 100 years.

This is the roll-back of Leftist, Communist, Collectivist, Socialist, Marxist ideology we have longed for, prayed for since the late 1970s.

What Clinton and Obama did to us, is being unraveled right his minute.

Folks, It is happening! It’s happening right before our eyes.

Anyone that can’t see it at this point, is just not realizing what they are seeing.

I KNOW, right?

And yet, some people are continually kvetching!

Are they STILL bitter over the primaries, or are they just deep-cover trolls?

So by your logic, could have a communist heading it...doesn’t matter as Presidents don’t listen to them...

I just read some Hassett articles. He and others describe him as Capitalist, not Corporatist which is the arch enemy of Capitalism. Of course those might be ignorant descriptions.

But from the article it is clear that Hassett’s philosophy can be summed up:

“A rising tide lifts all boats.”

It is also clear that he is against taxes. Just hope he isn’t for picking winners and losers with tax policy.

More lies and no contextual trash

I’m sick of this type of hot piece

So now Breitbart is lying? Really? Throughout the entire campaign, everyone here thought Breitbart was the go-to website for all things Trump—it was and it still is.

Not sure what you meant by “no contextual trash” My guess is you meant: “No content. Trash.” Forgive me if I am wrong, but it was not clear...

Actually, there is a lot of information—content which should be of concern to those of us who supported Trump because he is going to be putting American workers first.

Hassett may be brilliant, but policy wise, he is not at all on the same page with Candidate Trump...Sort of like a number of the people in Trump’s realm.

Maybe Trump will ignore his pro-immigration pro-globalist leanings~I hope so. However, but it is not wrong to be concerned and ask questions NOW, before the confirmation

Not sure if you read the article, so here is some content/context:

China: Hassett warned in 2010 that bashing China-U.S. trade policy would bring the U.S. back to the downward spiral in the 1930s.

Globalization: “An absolute prerequisite for long-term economic growth is full participation in the global economy and trading system.”

Immigrant workers: [E]conomic growth could expand significantly if immigration in the U.S. were expanded.”

The Financial Times said Hassett’s pick shows “nationalist forces have lost some ground when it comes to the economic advice reaching the president.” The Financial Times, in fact, used Hassett’s words to reveal his stance on issues.

• America Needs more workers

… With lackluster GDP growth threatening to become our new normal, allowing more immigrants to enter for the sake of employment is one of the few policies that might restore our old normal. If the U.S. DOUBLED its total IMMIGRATION and prioritized bringing in new workers, it could add more than half a percentage point a year to expected GDP growth.

• Understanding the role of the United States in the global economy

LIBERALIZED trade — in broadly multilateral, regional, or bilateral agreements — is a key ingredient in the recipe for prosperity. … An ABSOLUTE prerequisite for long-term economic growth is FULL PARTICIPATION IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY AND TRADING SYSTEM.

• Analysis of the economic effects of immigration reform

… This paper explores the economic consequences of expanded immigration on the U.S. economy. It begins by reviewing the immigration practices of our OECD trading partners, and documenting that immigration, as a share of the work force, is well below international norms. The literature identifying the economic impact of immigration is reviewed, suggesting that economic growth could expand significantly if immigration in the U.S. were expanded.

That’s a standard pitch from D.C.-based legislators, agency officials, and political advisors, all who stand to gain from a more powerful national economy and a greater inflow of taxes — no matter how immigration changes the distribution of income or the hurts the prospects of ordinary Americans and their children.

Trump sometimes seems to be following an old L.B.J. maxim:

“It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in.”

That is more than a little worrisome and is directly contrary to Trump's goal of putting American workers back to work. More immigration will lower wages and depress American worker participation rates. I look forward the hearings in this case before any confirmation vote.

You guess is wrong. Context is everything when one is claiming something

I did not say Breitbart was lying. Breitbart has an agenda and they have been off base in the past

You do understand the difference between Legal and other forms of immigration....or do you? Trump campaigned against ILLEGAL immigration. He has also cut back on H1B visas.

Instead of getting your knickers in a twist why don’t you spend some time trusting Trump. You ain’t his adviser. Folks voted for him for lots of reasons.

The pearl clutchers sure do seem to think that the advisers will get to set policy rather than Trump.
