The Great Barrier Reef is dead. It has ceased to be, expired and gone to meet its maker, kicked the bucket, shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and gone to join the bleedin choir invisible. It is an Ex Great Barrier Reef.
Well, at least it is if you believe the left-wing media such as the Guardian, which claims today that the reef is at terminal stage because of damage allegedly caused by climate change.
Lots of eco loons have been rending their garments and throwing their (recyclable, organic, gluten-free) toys out of the pram in horror at this hideous disaster.

Don’t they say that the reef is millions of years old, but it isn’t all that deep in the ocean, so wouldn’t it have been exposed to the air for thousands of years during each of the many ice age cycles?
I would think air and no water would kill a reef....
BBC has at least 2 stories a week about the Unprecedented coral bleaching of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef ,LOL
Machiavellian...an enemy at the gates if you want to control people. Tyrannical Bull Shiete!
Yeppers.
I remember reading somewhere that the coral reef bleaching has more to do with SUNBLOCK in suntan lotions than ‘Climate Change’........................
WaPo 2015: How we are all contributing to the destruction of coral reefs: Sunscreen
Remarkable Reef, the Great Barrier. Beautiful Plumage, innt?
Something about this whole discussion which has always seemed obvious to me, but never gets mentioned is this:
Might not rising temperatures -- even if only temporary -- create as much new coral in cooler areas as it kills in warm regions?
Lol! The Earth was much much warmer than today than during the Medieval, Roman and Minoan Warm Periods. And the reefs survived it.
I’ve been scuba diving for almost 50 years, all over the world. I was a subscriber to “Skin Diver” magazine for most of that time, until it went out of business. I was reading about coral bleaching on the Great Barrier reef 35 years ago, when it was blamed on the Crown of Thorns starfish. Then about 25 years ago it was the fault of divers because they touched the reef too much. Now it’s the fault of climate change. What’s next, Alien Space Bats that are harvesting the zooxanthellae algae from our corals to make interstellar vodka?
These experts didn’t know 35 years ago and they don’t know now, but give them enough grant money and they will figure it out in another 5 years.
Lots of them are in Hollywood.
If rising temps are killing the coral reefs they must not have existed at all 700 years ago when the planet was 3 degrees warmer. Apparently we are to believe that the amazingly interdependent species that make up coral reefs all evolved in 700 years.
