Politico: Trump White House Is Getting Things Ready For A Second SCOTUS Vacancy
townhall.com ^ | 4/7/2017 | Mike Vespa

This morning Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. For such a non-controversial figure, Gorsuch experienced the full might of the Democratic Party’s attack machine. Still sour at Senate Republicans blocking Merrick Garland, Obama’s first pick to fill the vacancy left by the late Antonin Scalia, through the Biden rule—the Left was determined to stop Gorsuch at all costs. Despite having broad support from across the spectrum in the legal scholar realm—Obama’s former solicitor general supported his nomination—and the highest rating from the American Bar Association, Democrats formed a united front to stop him. They had the votes to block Gorsuch through a procedural hurdle, denying Senate Republicans the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and move to the final confirmation vote. As a result, Senate Republicans nuked the rules, allowing for Gorsuch to be confirmed by a simple majority. Not liking someone because a Republican president nominated him or her isn’t a good enough reason to block a judge. Democrats learned that the hard way.

Now, should a second vacancy occur, a) Republicans will not have as much trouble to confirm this person; and b) the composition of the Court could become more decidedly conservative. This is why it was probably best for the Democrats to keep their powder dry, but we’ve crossed that bridge.

I’m so relieved Gorsuch got confirmed. 2 more picks for President Trump would be great. If we ever find out if ole Jugears was never a true citizen of this country, President Trump may even have 2 additional vacancies to fill.

"...the composition of the Court could become more decidedly conservative."

NO! The Court could become more decidedly Constitutional. I get so sick of hearing the words conservative or liberal regarding the USSC. Supreme Justices either follow the Constitution or not. If the Ginsburg types don't have a working knowledge of the Founding Fathers' copious documents and publications regarding specific intent, then they should never be confirmed.

My first question to any nominee: Have you read the Federalist Papers, the anti-Federalist papers, the FF's publications, their diaries, their correspondence, quotes attributed, the Constitutional Debates???
Second question: Exactly where is it stipulated in the Constitution that any private citizen must purchase a product from a private company or be taxed by the Fedgov? Where? There is nothing even close, unless you subscribe to the misused "general welfare" clause. Again, FF's meant no such specifics. If they had known how modern lawyers and justices would spin, parse, abuse that clause, they would never had included it.

And no, I don't care about past precedence. There are only so many duties stipulated in the Constitution for the Fedgov. Everything else is designated to the States as per the 9th and 10th Amendments.

We need to stop letting the liberals/socialists control the language. When debating with such, use the word Constitutionalist rather than conservative.

John Goodman’s gender reassignment didn’t go too well. He should have left well enough alone.

"you know Ivanka is going to be all over getting a liberal justice in to swing the court to the left."

WTF?

"Why does every person liberal and conservative never want the freaking baby boomers to FINALLY get out of our lives. The most destructive group ever to live needs to DIE for God’s sake or at least retire and get out of America’s way."

Want some cheese with that vintage hyperbole you're sipping? But seriously folk, maybe we can convince the GenX and Millenials to formulate a Boomer toxin: 2 parts Woodstock, 2 parts LSD, 3 parts sterility (retro-active).

Sotomayor has Type II Diabetes. That has a tendency to cause all kinds of untoward complications. It would be such a shame for anything to happen to her. Bless her heart.

If this needs a sarc tag, I am in the wrong place.

The 9th circus needs to be split up, and have another district formed for UT, MT, CO, WY etc etc.

Yep. Scalia was murdered. I pray that this will be revealed to the electorate and that the democRAT party will be destroyed by its revelation if not any number of other devious plots.

She has a chance. Evil witches live extraordinarily long. Maybe if we just burned her broomstick.

Where's our Dorothy with her bucket of water???

Donald Trump pledged to pick justices from the LIST.

If he picks anyone not on the approved list, he will be toast with the people who believed him and voted for him.

Remember the LIST?

I believe that list was perceived to be a promise for the first nominee only

I thought the list was so long to allow for many vacancies.

Wouldn’t deviating from the list be the same as immediately ending the possibility of being re-elected?

There were some remarks made in poor taste made by some of the Donks that were revealed by Wikileaks on the day of Scalia’s death referring to “wet works”. I wouldn’t be surprised if Scalia was murdered. Just the location and remoteness of the scene is suspiciously like a scene for murder, with no police, hospital, or even local officials within miles, and it so close to the Mexican border.

That murder really showed the real status of so called superpower US.. as banana republic.
