Dr. Ben Carson has discovered over $500 billion (that's with a 'B') in errors and accounting mistakes during his audit of the Obama administration’s Housing and Urban Development budget.
One of Dr. Carson’s first orders after being confirmed as the Secretary of HUD was a thorough audit of the agency, which has been accused of fraud and over-budgeted projects throughout the entire Obama administration.
What did the auditors find? Over $520 billion in budgetary mistakes and clerical errors.

Not errors and accounting mistakes. Embezzlement. Find them, name them, and send someone(s) to prison. Period.
I was excited to have discovered this error, and though I would be lauded. But instead, I was "thanked" by people higher up than me, and then told in no uncertain terms that I was not to go poking around in any code in that system in the future. I never heard anything else from them again.
These numbers had been used by the CBO, and had been wrong for at least a decade. Another reason to not trust what the CBO ever says.
And for the curious, the programming error was one where the person who developed the code overlooked, or was not aware of the fact, than in many systems, a NULL was not the same as a ZERO. Oops...

If I found an error of that magnitude, I would have to ask at least three other people to verify that they too could see the inequity. All this would be done before I said word one about the situation.

I was in IT in the 1980’s and my company was contracted for computer services with the Bureau of Indian Affairs... sometime around 1989/90 a $7billion deficit was discovered ... Their contract had them in charge of backup and recovery of data... and their controls and procedures were so intentionally sloppy that determining where it all went was an impossibility... This is nothing new ,, just orders of magnitude larger ...
Kinda like they simply forgot to secure our borders for decades from millions flooding in illegally, all while spending hundreds of billions every year in tax dollars coddling and support these criminals.
It was probably all just an innocent oversight.
Errors and accounting mistakes? BS..It should be Fraud, not mistakes.... The only mistakes was that they were caught...

Even just this initial report makes me proud of Carson—some questioned his qualification for the position, but it seems to me like he’s on top of it.
