Trump's budget could plunge nation's capital into recession

While many of the targeted federal agencies have offices outside Washington, Trump's dream budget would hit the region disproportionately, with tens of thousands of jobs at risk. The cuts would be felt throughout the city, with fewer people riding the already-beleaguered Metro subway or eating at restaurants. It would also hurt Washington's already-shaky market for office space.

Economist Stephen Fuller of George Mason University, who has studied the regional economy for decades, estimated 20,000-24,000 federal employees and 10,000 federal contractors would lose their jobs under Trump's proposal. That equates to 5 percent of federal workers in the region.

With those workers earning an average salary of $111,000, the job losses would mean more than $2.2 billion in lost wages, Fuller said. That would reverberate around the city.

"These are basically shutting agencies down whose principal contribution to the Washington economy is jobs," Fuller said. "These are really good jobs. The average job in a restaurant (pays) $28,000. You've got to create a lot of restaurant jobs to replace one of these."

Deep unemployment in the DC area is and has long been highly desirable.

“These are basically shutting agencies down whose principal contribution to the Washington economy is jobs,” Fuller said. “These are really good jobs. The average job in a restaurant (pays) $28,000. You've got to create a lot of restaurant jobs to replace one of these.”

So Fuller is admitting these jobs don't contribute squat, save for funneling high-paying salaries to deadbeats.

DRAIN THE SWAMP!! I want all of these parasites OUT!

Non-productive “jobs” = welfare. They pretend to work, and the government pays them.

D.C. Government workers will be "drastically" cut!!!

They can get their resumes in order and sign up at the unemployment office like so many of our families have had to do.

Best news in decades!

Yep, that's exactly the same bilge they've been telling us peons since they brought on the whole "one world economy" and shipped all our jobs off shore, while telling us to return to community colleges to learn IT, or other "skill."

It never bothered any of them that those jobs they sent off shore paid much larger salaries than entry level IT, sackers at Sams or Walmart!

Maybe we could go out and get hired at McDonald's!

To think that many of the counties with the highest income per capita are government employees in and around D.C.!

They are sponging off us, the lowly taxpayers, while telling Trump and the GOP, that cutting the deadwood in unnecessary government jobs is heartless, mean and hateful!

I think we should relocate taxpayer fueled entities and agencies like the EPA, NEA, IRS, CIA, NSA, UN, PBS, etc to the hardest hit victims of liberalism: the torn out areas in the South Side of Chicago, West Baltimore, East St Louis, Memphis, Detroit, South Central LA, and of course the Anacostia community just across the river from the swamp.

But who will want to hire them? Here in Houston, some engineering companies view a lot of time employed by the government as a negative.

They overlook the fact that government workers are overhead. They are not creating or producing anything except more regulations.
