The owner of the Olive Garden is making a cheesy acquisition. And investors love it.

Darden Restaurants announced late Monday that it was buying Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, a casual dining chain with 165 restaurants in 28 states, for $780 million cash. The company also announced earnings and sales that topped forecasts.

Love Cheddar’s onion rings, $5 for a large serving. Please don’t screw that up.

Obamacare was supposed to be the nail in the coffin for Darden. Guess they got around that.

You got that right!

You can’t beat Olive Garden’s all you can eat soup and salad.

The chicken and gnocchi is my absolute favorite. I just love the broth.

When driving cross country, OG is a go to place for a semblance of Mediterranean food.

On Sunday the wife and I ate at the local Olive Garden and we each enjoyed our meal. The place was pretty full.

That seems to be the formula, stuff people full of cheap carbs to make them go into a food coma and think they’ve gotten a great deal.

Seniors love Olive Garden and OG knows who their target market is. The food is inexpensive, plentiful and somewhat bland. It’s not bad, but not memorable either.

Remember, your grandmother thinks food with a couple of shakes of black pepper is spicy.

I prefer Zuppa Toscana. I never have anything but soup and salad at OG.

It’s easy to tell the difference. Hospital food is incredibly bland, OG food has enough salt in it to kill a shark.

My thoughts exactly. Olive Garden is the McDonald’s of Italian restaurants. In all seriousness, there is a Cheddar’s a few miles from my house, but I rarely go because it is always packed. Not to mention there are more “casual dining” restaurants than you can shake a stick at within a few miles of the house, and these days even “casual dining” is a treat.
