Fresh off a defeat on U.S. healthcare legislation, the White House warned rebellious conservative lawmakers that they should get behind President Donald Trump's agenda or he may bypass them on future legislative fights, including tax reform.
The threat by White House chief of staff Reince Priebus to build a broad coalition on tax reform that could include moderate Democrats came as the Republican head of the tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives said he hoped to move a tax bill through his panel this spring.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady said his committee had been working on tax reform in parallel with the failed healthcare reform push.
"We've never stopped working," Brady told Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo." "We will continue to make improvements."
Brady said the committee plans to move on the bill in the spring. He said he wanted the House blueprint to be the basis for Trump's tax reform plan rather than have competing versions from Treasury and the White House.
Both Trump and Priebus have scolded hardline conservatives who rejected legislation backed by the White House to overhaul Obamacare.
Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Priebus held out the possibility of working with moderate Democrats as well as Republicans to pass other aspects of Trump's agenda, such as his proposed budget, the revamp of the tax code and a renewed effort at healthcare reform.
"If we can come up with a bill that accomplishes the goals of the president with Republicans alone, we'll take it and we'll move forward with it," Priebus said.

When Trump attacks the FC,he is, by extension attacking a segment of his base.
I think it’s great that Trump honors loyalty, but he needs to remember loyalty is a 2 way street.
I’m glad that Ryancare didn’t pass, but Trump is not helping anything by going after the FC! If you doubt me, take a look at the divisions on these threads!
President Trump, you may have a long memory, but so do we. You promised “Repeal and Replace” at every rally...and you never said a fu*cking word about it being done in phases!
Donald Hillary, more like.
No one was going to get rid of that. Trump has gone further than anyone else would have and if “Conservatives” would have his back he may have gone even further. As it stands now if he gets rid of it all the people who agree will stay quiet and those who don’t will be 24/7 against. This is not a Trump issue
Because even “our” 1% isn’t selling them.
I believe so, and I eMailed him at the White House and said exactly that.
There is much I want to get out of this guy, while the getting is good, so I am not going to trash him.
When hes wrong, Ill say so. I wont get a kick out of doing it, but right is right and wrong is wrong.
Ryan and the GOPe ARE NOT AND NEVER WILL BE on the side of Conservatism folks.
NEVER!

I don’t trust Reince
I do trust Trump
Get rid of Ryan
OIC if it had passed the HFC would have been considered a minor contributor but since it failed they are making it look like they were solely at fault.
Trump started off being far more conservative in his appointments and executive orders and budget (DOA, of course) than I ever expected him to be.
I’ll wait and see on this one.
Or over it, or THROUGH it.
That is not what was at all. Grow up
Ryan supported, voted for and passed a January 2016 ACA repeal only bill.
Now Ryan doesn't want such a bill even voted on.
The problem isn't the FC. The problem is Ryan.
And Trump criticizes the Freedom Caucus and doesn't criticize Ryan.
Thanks Artcore. Take care...
“When Trump attacks the FC,he is, by extension attacking a segment of his base.”
Maybe he plans to peel them off instead!!
Rep Ted Poe (R-TX) resigns from Freedom Caucus. Tells Meadows. Had planned to vote yea on health care bill

And the reason behind that, whether it’s good, bad or indifferent, is that the gubmint has FORCED IT upon everybody, so they have built their lives around it and depend on it.....which was FDR’s plan from the get-go.
I'll bet that if you went through all of the districts those guys represent, you'll find that Trump won them overwhelmingly -- mainly because he promised to repeal ObamaCare. Why would anyone criticize them for representing their constituents and expecting the president to fulfill his campaign promises?
Ideology doesn’t just matter, it’s everything. It’s why Trump is looking to cut deals with democrats to pass watered down crap.
Thank you for the link; I wasn’t aware of that. I’ve intentionally stayed away from Twitter for the past couple of days. I simply do not have the stomach for it. Will probably check it out later tonight or tomorrow.
My brain has been engaged in a ping pong match since Friday!
“The GOPe wants a big government plan. So do the other Leftists.”
I contend the vast majority of the American people want a big government plan. Americans like their benefits.
They just don’t like paying for them.
I await the day a “true conservative” actually proposes the taxes necessary to provide all the services the American people demand, without deficit.
And I actually believe that would be a conservative position to take. To force the American people as a whole to wake up to their unreasonable demands.
Really? How many? Name them?
Meanwhile on the other side, there's Paul "I'll never defend Trump" Ryan, for starters.
