Health Reform: President Trump's visit to Capitol Hill might have been enough to ensure that the House ObamaCare "repeal and replace" bill will get enough votes to pass. If it fails, it will be a disaster for Trump and the GOP. If it passes, it will hardly be a victory.
Trump met with House Republicans in a closed-door session to warn them that failure to pass this bill is not an option. According to some lawmakers, he told anyone thinking of voting no that "I'm going to come after you, but I know I won't have to because I know you'll vote yes."
Nevertheless, some conservatives are still opposed to the bill, and its fate remains uncertain. So the question remains: Is this high-wire act worth it, given what's in the House bill?
As we noted in this space earlier, the original House plan was a marginal improvement on ObamaCare in some parts, but kept the insurance industry mandates and regulations that caused ObamaCare to fail in the first place minimum benefit rules and "guaranteed issue."
The GOP leadership has tweaked the bill since in an attempt to assuage both moderates and conservatives, but left that core problem intact.

Anything Paul Ryan touches is a train wreck.
Trump should not trust Paul Ryan, his new BFF.
Forget about Ryan. The article makes a good point. Why would TRUMP go to such lengths to pass an ineffective bill?
Paul Ryan is John Boehener with widow’s peak instead of an orange glow ...
I pray Trump will not go on road rallies and go after Gop who disn’t vote to pass bill. Not a way to work and deal. Why pass a bad deal at any cost?
If they (Paul Ryan) would just repeal the damn thing like they’ve promised in the past 6 years, then I’ll be happy. But, with GOPe Ryan involved, there’s a helluva problem. He’s trying to foist Obamicare Lite/Duplicate upon us!
Replacing one train wreck with another is not a solution.
Like a football game being fought out at midfield, this is a game of inches.
There is still no breakaway for either side, and the final score cannot be 0-0. A very stark binary choice stands, either a collapsing Obamacare, or a substitute that stands to be further modified before it collapses in its own right.
Chuck Schumer would be amenable to making some changes to Obamacare, but the basic structure would NOT be repealed. And it would still collapse. Does nobody remember HMO’s, and how universally HATED they were? Yet this is the only kind of “insurance” plan that is gaining any traction under the current Obamacare structure. The much more flexible PPO plans are either going broke or folding up completely.
Why is the President doing this? What is the rush? Why don’t we take time and get it right?
He has had at least 3 meetings with Dr Death. That guy shouldnt be allowed anywhere near this
Personally I think Ryan and few others are trying to sabotage Trump on purpose with a bad bill.
New this morning all over. Oh wow, Trump the deal maker fails at his biggest promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Look....the GOP wasted six years telling everyone of their fantastic ideas to get rid of ObamaCare and how they’d fix everything.
So you arrive in 2017 to discover that it was hyped up nonsense and that they have done zero effort to prepare for this day. In fact, it really points out that they were ready and prepared for Hillary Clinton to slide into the job, and things would just continue on until 2024 with President Clinton and no changes or challenges to ObamaCare.
So Trump walks into the poker game and says...fine, you do nothing or pass nothing....probably thirty-percent of the House seats will slide to Democrats. Ryan’s job as speaker is now under some threat. The fake GOP crowd is in some denial and still wishing that Hillary had done her campaign right.
Whatever they are crafting up....it’s a marginal package to pass through the Senate, and I doubt if it’ll be around for more than five to seven years. Single-payer is the program to fix all of this....giving everyone marginal three-star healthcare for an affordable rate. That’s the only way to exit this mess and make everyone happy over affordable healthcare.
BS
The problem is not unprepared, the problem is sorting out all the various propositions that have been gathering dust in filing cabinets.
That’s why some of us have figured out a way around Obamacare ... and we really don’t give a flying f#%& whether or not it ever gets repealed.
It’s just about impossible to remove an entrenched government entitlement program.
Ted Cruz knows what that's like.
I think you’re wrong about that. It’s impossible to get rid of a program like SS or Medicare because the current cost is low and it’s designed to fail decades from now. Obamacare should be easy to replace because it costs people a fortune and is failing NOW. It didn’t even last long enough to become entrenched.
If it doesn’t carry the individual mandate, it is NOT a train wreck.
Note to Trump: Call in Ryan. Ask him to step aside from the role of trying to honcho an ACA repeal-and-replace bill; completely aside. Ask to appoint xxxxxxxxxx (a real Conservative) as the “whip” to put a House-GOP-majority bill together. Remind that person to remind the rest of the House. The bill does not have agree with the Senate’s version. Non-agreement only means that passing different bills in each chamber will result in the formation of a reconciliation bill. Some poor Senate or House elements of their separate bills can be reconciled there.
Be warned. A large part of the so called Deep State consists of anti Trump RINOs too.
