Weve been misreading the Declaration of Independence for centuries. Turns out it says people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and birth control someone else pays for.
Thats the impression supporters of AB249 and SB233 left after testifying Monday. Both bills would require that all Nevada insurance companies provide birth control with no co-pays or other point-of-delivery costs. Supporters lavishly praised those mandates.
Many liberals believe in positive rights, aka the right to free stuff, like birth control. But that reading necessarily means that government will infringe someone elses rights. In this case, its you and your 80-year-old grandma, and your freedom to buy an insurance policy that doesnt cover birth control.

“Free stuff is expensive. If you praise birth control without co-pays, dont feign shock at skyrocketing premiums, thanks in part to a laundry list of government-mandated coverages.”
This is why healthcare should be turned over to the states.
I was absent that day in law school. The rights to free birth control and free abortion—it’s a wonder I passed the bar not knowing about those fundamental rights.
That does not include the "right" to carefree orgasms.
If a woman needs it that much, she can go buy a vibrator with her own bank account.
Why do these people think copulation is unavoidable?
It also says you have the right not to be offended, you have the right to murder your unborn children, you have the right to free health care, free insurance, free lunch, free beer, free sex, free maryjane, and a free warm and cuddly puppy, and, of course, the right not to be exposed to self-evident religious truths such as being created equal by the creator and grantor of all rights. You especially have the right not to be appreciative of all who came before you and fought and died to defend those rights for you.
What?????...... It shouldn't be turned over to anybody except the individual who pays for it!.................
We warned you to not eat those oysters.
We told you that you would get sick and miss class and probably some really important stuff, but no, you knew better....easpecially after those ten shots of whiskey.
Nothing says strong independent woman more than demanding everyone else pay for my birth control.
Le sigh. It was the jello shooters.
I think you’re on to my risky habit of always burning up my three permitted absences in the first two weeks of the quarter.
Of course you have a right to your own birth control - its called abstinence.
JMHO, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We hate abortion, we hate paying welfare, but we have 70-75% of the Africans giving birth out of wedlock, 65% of Alaska Natives/American Indians giving birth out of wedlock, approximately 50% of Hispanics giving birth out of wedlock, and about 25% of whites doing the same. It is pretty obvious to me that nobody cares what we think, because they are going to breed like cats and dogs. I think we should put free birth control clinics on every corner, and draw them in with free cokes and cookies. They get a depo shot in the arm, or an implant (IUD or Norplant type), and we will save ourselves a ton of money in the long run. We cannot control the behavior of others, but we can mitigate some of the harm they bring on society.
*Anything* to do with the health, safety or welfare of the citizenry is mandated to the states.
I promise to buy free birth control for you if you are having sex with me. I will not buy free birth control for you if you are boinking some other douchebag.
“What?????...... It shouldn’t be turned over to anybody except the individual who pays for it!.................”
Yes, that’s true, but there are blue states where the majority want to be given “free $hit,” and all I’m saying is that the country, as a whole, should not be on the hook for those states. We should also not be on the hook for those states coming bankruptcies. As a “conservative” Californian, I can’t wait for this place to go belly up. Reality won’t arrive until the money runs out. Unfortunately, even in the Red States, there is far too much debt and no real plan as to how to deal with it. “Other people’s money” is just about gone!
This is a Nevada bill right?
State citizens can vote for free anything for themselves.
I don’t see it as a Constitutional issue.
If Nevada citizens want to vote for free contraception for its citizens, or free anything .... and as long as no Federal taxpayer money goes toward it ... then that’s fine.
The Blue States will scream bailout! from the rest of us...............
States already were heavily into ‘regulating’ health insurance and health care both ... even before Obamacare. One of many reasons the whole health care delivery system was so screwed up to begin with.
I never understood why Conservatives were OK with this but they seemed to think this was OK. Of course Federal meddling is worse because it is unconstitutional, but it is essentially the same thing.
