WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

I think Comey’s statement could be read in more than one way.
Comey is trying to clear the FBI of any allegations of wrongdoing. That doesn’t mean that wrong doing didn’t occur elsewhere.
If the claim is substantiated, Mr. Comey’s resignation should be on President Trump’s desk within the week.
wait. Is Comey insinuating that the FBI worked with the White House after all? Why would Zero approving a wire tap make the FBI ‘illegal’?
The Court cannot / does not do it on their own. DOJ/FBI requested it. “Legality” is now defined as Lynch(ing) and 3 Clinton appointed judges during a Hillary Clinton campaign - and no recusals!
Now that Trump’s President, it should be easy enough to produce the FISA warrants, even if only redacted versions.
That’s what I’m waiting for.

Ever since Trump revealed NEWS this government was wiretapping him, which means he has clear hard evidence in hand, we've been feeling extremely good. It's almost euphoric.

Maybe timing? Comey told President Trump. Do we know WHEN he told the President? Trump is just now mentioning it, but he may have been told two months ago, and has a reason for now using the info, probably Sessions, Russians, etc. which is BS. Hillary/BHO/Jarret/the whole stinking Senate MAY REALLY involved with the Russians or a power that is pulling strings.
You know, it may be that a certain someone WANTED in Russia would like nothing better than to take out the Russians/Putin AND President Trump.

You are wrong on at least two counts. First, under the law of agency, if it was done by his minions it was done by him. That is why Nixon was in trouble for the Watergate bag job. And then there is the public relations aspect.
It has gotten broad and wide discussion because of the charge against Obama. His ultimate vindication - see it wasn't me, it was JarJar who did this is hardly a vindication.
