The Environmental Protection Agency will announce a change in automobile emissions standards next week, undoing a last minute effort by the Obama administration to lock in the rules through 2025. The NY Times reports:
The tailpipe pollution regulations were among Mr. Obama’s major initiatives to reduce global warming and were put forth jointly by the E.P.A. and the Transportation Department. They would have forced automakers to build passenger cars that achieve an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, compared with about 36 miles per gallon today

In Illinois, I can not find a station that sells ethanol-less gas.
Pure gasoline would probably solve most of the MPG “issues”.
If it were not for government and legal system interference, we would already have flying cars with less traffic related death and injury than we have now. The General Aviation airplane I own, a 1969 Piper Cherokee which has an engine which was originally certified in 1952. This engine was based on 1930s technology perfected during WWII. It is essentially on old Volkswagen engine on steroids. This was an entry level aircraft and engine. But this same engine now costs approximately $47,000 new.
The price of a new entry level airplane that is equivalent to ours is now over $200,000 despite having far fewer parts and other than upgraded navigation and communications technology essentially no upgrades to the basic aircraft. Why? Mostly because of frivolous lawsuits by ambulance chasing lawyers and over regulation by the government that stifles innovation.
The small aircraft industry is a case in point of what happens when the government over regulates and lawyers are allowed to sue a manufacturing sector into oblivion. Innovation is stifled and prices are several times higher than they would be otherwise.
I have an old ('98) sports car. Just turned 200,000 miles. Will still do 140 if I push it. ALWAYS use real gas, except when away on business. Lot's of places in Oklahoma use "Real Gas" as a selling point.

In Washington state you can get automotive fuel without ethanol at CFN (Commercial Fueling Network) stations. I do not believe that they are allowed to advertise the fact, but you can check by putting a small amount of fuel in a test tube and drawing a line at the top of the fuel, then you add some water and shake it up. If after you let the fluids settle... the fuel level under the water goes up... you have alcohol in the gas.
So you might check at CFN stations in Illinois, it could be a similar situation. Unfortunately, most of them are unmanned forcing you to open an account to use them. And the prices are usually a little higher than at normal retail gas stations.
Very excited about the prospects of reversing these nonsensical NWO friendly regulations.
Not the least of which, as you point out, is ethanol in the gas tank. How mindless are these liberal busybodies!
Hopefully the ‘gas guzzling tax’ imposed on muscle cars will be a thing of the past.
Oh, this is fantastic, if true and it goes through. IMO, these fuel economy standards are absurd. Keep emissions at a low enough level to prevent actual pollution(carbon dioxide is not a pollutant since it is a naturally occurring trace gas), but let the auto buying public decide how many miles per gallon they want. We have plenty of gas.

Same here in Texas, where it’s almost impossible to find pure gas. Something stinks in Austin because there HAVE to be scads of people here in TX who want to buy pure gas. There must be some regulations here to favor ethanol at the pumps. Just across the border in Oklahoma, pure gas is everywhere.
I know of at least one place in Reno that they sell “real” gas. Even 110 racing fuel. But it ain’t cheap. Besides which, it’d probably pop a hole in a cylinder in my “modern” engine.
CAFE is a weapon to control what cars we HAVE to buy and adds thousands of dollars to the price of a car. Plus more people are killed because they are driving these toy cars. If he doesn’t go through with this
we will be forced to drive golf carts within 5 years. All because of the fraud of AGW.

In Indiana, 100% gas is labeled “Agricultural Fuel”, and nearly every co-op carries it, though at a higher price.
The pump also has to have a note on it saying “Not for use in motor vehicles”, to get around the EPA regs.
