Oh, this is fantastic, if true and it goes through. IMO, these fuel economy standards are absurd. Keep emissions at a low enough level to prevent actual pollution(carbon dioxide is not a pollutant since it is a naturally occurring trace gas), but let the auto buying public decide how many miles per gallon they want. We have plenty of gas.

I have two 12 yr old cars that were rated at 47 mpg Highway and have a range of ~700 mi. No hybrid-electric stuff.

They are irreplaceable at the moment, unless I'm missing something.
