Revealed: exported EU animals subject to abuse and illegal conditions

..Dozens of undercover videos and photographs obtained by the Guardian show live cattle and sheep from EU countries being beaten, shocked with electric prods, held for days in overcrowded pens and covered head to toe in faeces as they are transported from Europe to their final destinations in Turkey and the Middle East in conditions that breach European law.

At their destination, at least some of the animals are slaughtered in appalling conditions. The footage shows cattle and sheep from France, Romania and Lithuania kicking and flailing violently as their throats are crudely cut or sawed at repeatedly, often in crowded street markets and run-down abattoirs.

In a street market in Jordan, a Romanian sheep spasms violently across the blood-soaked pavement after its throat is cut. In an abattoir in Turkey, French cattle hang by one leg from the ceiling, kicking and twisting violently as their throats are repeatedly cut at.

If I had to watch this to get something worthwhile done, such as surgery, prosecution or other factual reference, I would. I don’t have to watch this, so I won’t. I admit it; I grew up in the city, and have not seen a lot of slaughter. For the same reasons I don’t watch ISIS beheading videos, I don’t want to see those animals being tortured.
I already know that the EU exponentially overregulates the client nations of central Europe.

Understand your comment, but cruel treatment of animals in their slaughter isn’t something I see that Muslims (in this case) are capable of doing. It is a matter of the integrity and value you place on that which you raise, and the disposition of that end product and how they are killed and processed.

For Muslims (and THIS all boils down to Islamic Culture), I don’t believe they are capable of decency at even the most basic level (again, based on the pictures). Who in their right mind would consider them (Muslims) capable of dealing with rationally? They are only one step above the animals they ruthlessly butcher.

There is a science to slaughtering animals for human consumption.

The trick is to knock them silly so they feel no pain, while keeping the heart beating so they can bleed out when their throat is slit. It’s not as easy as you’d think.

My wild guess is that less than 10% of industrial slaughterhouses offer any ongoing training on how to properly stun the animal before letting the blood out. Some workers would laugh in your face at the suggestion. They have numbers to meet. Not a lot of time or co-workers.

I recall seeing this sort of expose video over 40 years ago filmed in this country. Not much changes for Big Meat unless they are forced to make those changes. Once in a while, groups like PETA and bureaucracies like the OSHA and EPA do have a legitimate point to raise.

I grew up and still live in NYC, and have seen a number of quite bloody events.

I feel for those being decapitated. I stopped watching cause I felt like it was free coverage for ISIS.

Muzzlimes don't even consider women to be human, subjecting them to humiliating covering of themselves, genital mutilation, and confinement. Would you think they would show more humanity toward dumb animals? The people who subjected these poor beasts to such treatment should have the same done to them. Beat them, electrically prod them, coat them with feces, terrify them, have them die slowly and in absolute terror as some untrained idiot saws repeatedly at their throat. Just seeing these picture left me in tears. There are far more humane ways to end the lives of meat animals.

I don't even eat red meat, myself. Fish and poultry only, and my poultry is humanely slaughtered.

The Humane Society always has good points to make. Except in this case they haven’t addressed the ritual slaughter controversy as much as PETA. But they are very involved in the regulations are that changing worldwide for the industry on an almost monthly basis. Although sometimes more strongly in places like Guatamala unfortunately than farm states in the US. :(
