A Georgia man and woman cried in court Monday after they were both sentenced to long prison terms for terrorizing a black childs birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs and threats.
Jose Ismael Torres and Kayla Rae Norton were convicted earlier this month under a street gang terrorism law for the 2015 harassment in Douglassville, outside Atlanta, and cried in court on Monday.
Video footage from the party, little more than a month after Dylann Roofs Charleston church massacre, shows a parade of trucks roaring by with Confederate battle flags.

20 years for one party, and 15 for the other. I wonder if they’d have gotten less time if they actually shot everyone instead of just talking about it.

Well, yeah. Assimilated after 150 years.
It looks, from the article, like this was a gang conflict for which one side chose a Confederate theme.

1) Confederate flag? Who the **** cares!
2) Loud noise? Perhaps a fine.
3) Threats to "kill".Yes,punishment for that...even if there was no intention,or attempt,to carry out the threat.
4) Mentioning the race of the person you're threatening to kill means nothing!
Punishment for the threats...yes.
But 35 years is an outrage!

It was that terrible rebel flag that brought on the long incarcerations.

Boy I would hate to see the sentence for the people that kidnapped and video taped the assault on the disabled teen in Chicago.
Jordan Hill, 18; Tesfaye Cooper; 18; Brittany Covington, 18; and Tanishia Covington, 24, have each been charged with a hate crime, felony aggravated kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

This is a precedence that could backfire some day on some ‘racists of color’.

Don’t agree with what the guy did. I do think 35 years is a bit much.
While I detest this sort of thing, some perspective is still expected at the time of sentencing.
I didn’t read more than was presented here. Perhaps there’s more to it, and if it does warrant additional time, I’m not opposed to it.
I detest racism.

If the races were reversed would it even have been prosecuted as a misdemeanor?
If there isn’t a lot more to the incident the “street gang” conviction is insane.

Norton, who according to the Journal-Constitution is the mother of Torres's children, was sentenced to 15, serving six, for terroristic threats and street gang terrorism.Wait! We can't break up families. I got it directly from the left, you have to ignore the law for the sake of families.
