CPAC Offers Utterly Uninspiring Vision for Millennials
Reason.com ^ | 2/23/17 | Elizabeth Nolan Brown

The one millennial-focused panel on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) main-stage Thursday was titled "FREE stuff vs FREE-dom: Millennials' Love Affair with Bernie Sanders?" It got worse from there.

***

Asked what might bring Bernie-loving millennials around to Republicans or capitalism, the panelists continued to bash Democratic policies such as the Affordable Care Act and the socialist policies that wrecked Venezuela. But they still failed to offer any positive visions of their own. It served as a stark reminder why the Republican Party does so dismally with young folks—in polls, just around 20 percent of millennials tend to identify as Republican—and why provocateurs such as Milo Yiannopolous and others of his ilk are able to command such a share of young, right-of-center attention.

For all the things establishment conservatives think millennials should be against, they have a hard time articulating what young people should be for, how that relates to the Republican Party, and how conservatism and capitalism can help young people accomplish the things that they think big government is needed for.

Meanwhile, at CPAC's millennial session, the panelists pondered instead how to make millennials more patriotic. They concluded that it might help them to visit Washington monuments and the Arlington Cemetery. When policy ideas and politics fail, there are always dead soldiers, I guess.

More and better jobs will change the equation. These kids need to work, find mates, build families...not fill-out endless on-line job applications from their parents’ basements. When you are paying your own taxes, insurance, mortgage, etc., you begin to “get” conservatism. Free stuff doesn’t help anyone grow up.

I have only seen bits and pieces so far. I saw a discussion with Gov. Walker and Gov. Bevin among others, about states’ actions — it was good. And I saw Mercedes Schlapp interview Kellyanne, it was very good. And her husband interviewing Steve Bannon and Reince — also very good.

The audience seemed very psyched at those presentations.

I made sure a nephew of mine never ate soy at a young age. He was half screwed already from never being breast fed, but I may have saved his masculinity. He’s a lady killer now, especially in this cuck-serve environment.

The return of the Alpha Male.

It’s how President Trump got elected. Real Women aren’t threatened. We want to feel protected. I have two post grad degrees, no man can make me feel stupid or inadequate. I have no need for a vagina suit or cat hat. I’ll keep my makeup and heels.

Real Men get to do all kinds of really cool stuff. It makes them interesting.

GOPes are boring. No wonder young people tune them out. The message is fine—freedom appeals to kids. But the messengers are awful and full of crap.

Okay, then maybe the reality will be better than I had expected. I had heard some rather unflattering things about what was coming. If that was wrong, then I’m glad to hear it.

It’s hard sometimes to get a feel for things. I have been to CPAC several times. I’ve not been that impressed.

If I was wrong here, I’m glad to hear it.

Thank you.

Wrong. There is no free stuff. That’s what they need to explain. If you work you will pay for someone else’s so called free stuff

The excerpt describes perfectly why Conservatives and Conservatism has FAILED for decades and will continue to fail until both disappear.

The entire premise of Conservatism is a defensive attitude against the Left. Only defensive.

What the Right needs to do is explain that the Left gives away free stuff, but at the cost of Liberty.

You're kidding, right.

Did you read the article?

Have you been paying attention the past 30 years?

Elizabeth Brown is a millennial twit herself. Look at the list of her titles on “Reason”. She is racing to the defense of prostitutes, German migrant mass rapists, etc. She is no conservative concerned about how to win over others.

The unpleasant truth is you that people like her drank the Koolaid and you cant change their core beliefs except in rare exceptions. The people of her generation love gay marriage, respect homosexuality, despise Christianity, healthcare is a right, the constitution is outdated, “hate” speech should be illegal, and think islam is basically ok.
There is no argument that can win them over to embracing the America we used to know. The better plan is to find ways to stymie their totalitarian impulse.

Good—let’s hope the Trump boom leads them to expand upon that impulse.

If you want to know what will bring young people around it is this — the traditional definition of virtue. It is a mystery to almost all of them.

There’s a whole generation of young guys out there begging for role models to teach them how to be MEN. They aren’t going to find that at CPAC.

They're not going to find it at "Reason" magazine, either.

Trump won white Millenials by about 8 points.

Didn't Trump skip CPAC last year?

I can assure you, there are plenty of whiners in the military.

What the Right needs to do is explain that the Left gives away free stuff, but at the cost of Liberty.

The Left does no such thing. The left robs you blind, burns cities, throws shit at cops, rapes your sister, kills your brother, and lies to you about it.

But they still failed to offer any positive visions of their own.

Libertarians are so stupid some times. P.J. O'Rourke summed up the difference between the two parties years ago. God is a Republican and Santa Clause is a Democrat.

How do you top a "positive vision" of giving people free stuff? You can't do it. All we offer is a reality based world of hard work and sacrifice.

If millenials don't like the message it's because they haven't got smashed in the face with reality yet.
