The one millennial-focused panel on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) main-stage Thursday was titled "FREE stuff vs FREE-dom: Millennials' Love Affair with Bernie Sanders?" It got worse from there.
Asked what might bring Bernie-loving millennials around to Republicans or capitalism, the panelists continued to bash Democratic policies such as the Affordable Care Act and the socialist policies that wrecked Venezuela. But they still failed to offer any positive visions of their own. It served as a stark reminder why the Republican Party does so dismally with young folksin polls, just around 20 percent of millennials tend to identify as Republicanand why provocateurs such as Milo Yiannopolous and others of his ilk are able to command such a share of young, right-of-center attention.
For all the things establishment conservatives think millennials should be against, they have a hard time articulating what young people should be for, how that relates to the Republican Party, and how conservatism and capitalism can help young people accomplish the things that they think big government is needed for.
Meanwhile, at CPAC's millennial session, the panelists pondered instead how to make millennials more patriotic. They concluded that it might help them to visit Washington monuments and the Arlington Cemetery. When policy ideas and politics fail, there are always dead soldiers, I guess.

The Right needs to stop saying that The Left gives away free stuff. It’s advertising. People want free stuff.
Looking to the Cuckservative Political Action Committee for advice on young folks is like looking to Bill Clinton for advice on fidelity.
What, Ben Shapiro, their brand new Mini-Me Milo substitute, wasn’t inspiring?
Well, I’ll be danged.
There’s a whole generation of young guys out there begging for role models to teach them how to be MEN. They aren’t going to find that at CPAC.
What the Right needs to do is explain that the Left gives away free stuff, but at the cost of Liberty. I’d choose Liberty over free stuff any day. And I’m on the cusp of being a millenial. I’m actually at the tail end of Generation X.
Ben has potential, but he went full NeverTrump, so his brand is really damaged goods for now.
Watching Trish on FBN, she had a bernie supporter guy on. And before he even talks I know what he’s gonna say.
Trump’s a racist and yada yada yada.
Let’s face it - CPAC and its brand of fagservatism inspires no one. It can’t even preserve itself, much less American or Western civilisation.
Trump won white Millenials by about 8 points.
Exactly. But they WILL find it in the alt-Right, part of whose overall makeup includes a return to patriarchy, REAL opposition to feminism, the uncucking of Feministianity and a return to genuine Bible Christianity, men molding themselves so they can be good role models to mold younger men and the boys they're raising, etc.
And also, eating less soy.
This made me laugh. My millennials (son and DIL) live in DC. It's a beautiful city to live in and my son's commute takes him past the Cemetery every day. He is "patriotic" but I don't think it's that drive past Arlington that did it for him. (although I would never get tired of seeing the Iwo Jima Memorial, it's not what makes me patriotic.)
OK, let’s see how the libertarians at Reason can change millenials for the better, getting them out of their parents’ basements and making them less socialistic. After they have shown traditional conservatives what they can do, they can resume fomenting quarrels with them at CPAC.
CPAC is misbranded IMO.
It’s the old GOPe brand of Conservatism.
I’d like to see it replaced.
Good solid Conservative principles presented by good solid Conservatives...
I don’t think it was the NeverTrumpers at CPAC that motivated them.
“Hard to tell others what they should be FOR if all you are FOR is your own aggrandizement. That pretty much sums up the GOP today.”
That could be the quote of the day, if not the year. The inspiring message is “this crap DOES NOT WORK.”
Being a democrat pretty much means government acts as your parents for the rest of your life. The Ctrl-Left tells you exactly what you have to do, exactly what you are not allowed to do, and even what you have to eat or not allowed to eat. The Left promises to support you forever, but in return, you have to obey them even when it makes no sense for them to tell you how to live your life. What Millennial wants another 50 years listening to parents who despise them and think they are too stupid/immature/foolish to make their own decisions - parents who can throw them in prison for disobeying?
Do all Millennials whine?
