Sen. Ted Cruz on Thursday predicted that there will be another Supreme Court vacancy this summer, on top of the current opening on the high court left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
This summer, I think well have another Supreme Court vacancy, he told attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference, prompting applause and then some murmurs from the crowd.
Supreme Court justices receive lifetime appointments, and their tenure only ends when they retire or die.
He said the left would go even crazier at that point than they are now as the U.S. Senate weighs President Trumps nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to replace Justice Scalia.
Because the next vacancy is where we have the ability to get back and restore basic constitutional protections, he said.

I’m pleasantly surprised that nobody has trashed Cruz yet. Maybe we’ve moved on, and can simply support President Trump and those who, such as Cruz, are promoting Trump’s policies.
Kennedy expected. Supposedly Trump admin gently wooing. Part of Ivanka showing up as his guest this week?
I don't know. Cruz is the one who vetted John Roberts. I don't know if the two of them serving together would work out real well.
Laura Ingram was a panel member a few weeks ago on Special Report and she also stated there would most likely be a vacancy this summer on the Supreme Court. She didn’t say who was leaving.
Thomas retiring?
On the other hand, if she is a zombie, will she ever leave?
When her head finally falls off, even the Fake News Media won’t be able to pretend she’s still alive.
Theo, Cruz is promoting himself.
When supporting Trump’s policies counted last year, Tead was a mute.
The threat of a Hillary Clinton presidency mattered not to him.
If you are truly a Conservative, this should matter to you.
Think of the SCOTUS justices she would have appointed. That alone would have utterly destroyed this nation for at least thirty years.
Ted just didn’t really give a damn.
Look at the difference between his visibility then trying to block Clinton, and now when he’s trying to salvage his image before his primary next year.
It is impossible to deny that the November 2016 election meant far less to him than the primary in 2018.
Tead and Glenn Beck can go to hell as far as I am concerned.
Roberts was correct in him ruling on ObamaCATE. He made the point,, that needed to be made, that SCOTUS isn’t there to be the safeguard against bad law. They’re there to determine constitutionality. There’s plenty of bad laws that are bad, but still constitutional. SCOTUS is not the relief valve for incompetent legislators.
Health Care is not a tax. No matter what. Nor is it Constitutional to force people to buy a bad product.
I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
“Based on what?”
He used to clerk for one of the USSC judges, he knows them.
It wouldn’t be out of the norm for one of them to tell him they were thinking about retiring.
Maybe ONE of them will get caught with their hands in the PIZZA pie................
“Im pleasantly surprised that nobody has trashed Cruz yet.”
Must resist......failing....aaaarrrghhhhh!
Im pleasantly surprised that nobody has trashed Cruz yet, eh?
That dried up old persimmon is two feet in the death pool.
hmmm. I do not like these guys letting he cat out of the bag that way. We know how liberals mobilize to keep their mummies clawed to office like Lenin
Cruz may know something. In any event this is probably a signal for mcconnell to go ahead and use the nuke option now.
