President Donald Trump vowed to make cyber security a priority during his administration. At a White House event last month he said he would "hold my Cabinet secretaries and agency heads accountable, totally accountable, for the cyber security of their organizations."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Don't know what to make of this...

Everyone in government gets warning e-mails before their CAC cards expire.
I heard once about a high-tech company outside Philadelphia where — it was said — you could always tell when a layoff was coming because everyone would be locked out of the computer system when they came into work.

You always want to err on “failing closed.”
The alternative is “failing open,” which lets everyone access what they shouldn’t
The system is functioning as it should and something with authorizations of employees is having problems.
I would like more government workers to have their access turned off.

I hardly think anyone outside of CNN or MSNBC would blame Trump for this. The man has had a month in office. Furthermore, this is not a security breach - it is due to an expiration of digitized identification cards used to log on to their computers. They should have passwords for their usernames that can be used if the PIV cards do not work so it is easily remedied and is not hand-wringing worthy (unless you are CNN or MSNBC).
Good example of the lack of communication found in bureaucracies.

Every little hick-up will now be mentioned to lend credibility to the idea government is falling apart under a Trump.

As a former DoD person, this does happen, when the order has been given to re-evaluate everybody’s security clearance, AND for the IT Dept. to examine as they can do, what kind of traffic went through which computer.
Yes, the blood will flow.

due to the expiration of the personal identify verification cards
If the verification cards had expired, and those employees had not renewed or were not renewable, they should NOT have access anyway, regardless of what their status was yesterday.

Did they not keep their Common Access Cards up to date? Been standard procedure for accessing government networks for quite some time.
