The Majority of Millennials Have $1,000 or Less in Savings

Millennials are projected to number 75.3 million for 2015, surpassing a projected 74.9 million for Baby Boomers. The Millennials will therefore comprise a greater percentage of the population than Baby Boomers for the first time. To gain insight into the saving habits of Millennials, we recently performed a survey of those from the ages of 18 to 34. We received 2,585 responses to our survey. The results of our survey found that over 50% of Millennials have less than $1,000 in savings. This would indicate that most millennials do not have a cushion to fall back on in case of an emergency. The rest of our findings can be analyzed with the visualizations below:

Don’t worry, they have the progressive nanny-state to take care of them.

How are Millenials or whatever you want to call those under age 40 or so ever going to recover? If they still have college loans to pay off, why would they save? They're paying interest on their loans, while savings earns near-zero interest. Many don't have the job security or the common sense budgeting skills to have money to put aside. Job security except maybe with government jobs is close to non-existent.

One can't help but wonder if there's any way to save those generations from abject poverty in retirement.

By the time the nanny state gets through with them they can’t afford to save any money from their low paying part time jobs.
Of course a lot of them don’t see that and just want more bennies.

These younger people can’t even buy and insure a used car in my area (never mind buy a home/start a family); odd that they still cling to socialism. A McJob in my area wouldn’t even cover your property taxes if someone gave you the home outright (and it isn’t a nice area).

The Millenial generation in America may go down in history as the first Americans to voluntarily regress to a life of indentured servitude.

Hard to save money when you have no job, lives on $6 lattes, and have to pay Mom $25 a month for basement rent.

Not shelling out $700 a year for the latest and greatest Apple IPhone/Samsung Galaxy might help. $5+ a day at StarSux as well.

My Dad grew up in the slums of South Boston ("Southie") during the Depression. That, plus being the youngest of 7 in his family during that time, made for very,*very* hard times. As a result he developed a "never a borrower or a lender be" *and* a "live below your means" attitude.

My Dad wore Timex watches and drove Oldsmobiles when he could have afforded *much* more.

I've adopted his attitudes and having done so has resulted in financial security.

I learned many valuable lessons from my parents..."live below your means" being one of the most valuable.

And their mom’s financial support.. Trust me. I give the biggest eye roll seeing some 22 year old family member on twitter blabbering on about politics when they live at home while on their 4th year of Junior College. Don’t even pay a dollar of rent never been on their own, yet they’re running their twitter fingere all day and night about Trump this or that...all negative bs.

No, you survey indicates that over 50% the Millennials who took your stupid survey may well have less than $1K in savings.
