A near-disaster in California probably wouldnt be averted by the kind of privatized investment that the president has in mind.
Tens of thousands of residents fled Oroville, California, on Sunday after water levels surged over a spillway at the Oroville Dam. Traffic jams reigned on highways leading north from Oroville, where officials ordered people to evacuate at 4:45 p.m.
Oroville families, who made their way to the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico and other staging areas, face uncertainty in the coming days. By late Sunday night, water from Lake Oroville was no longer rushing over the top of the dams emergency spillway, thanks to efforts by California water authorities to increase the flow of water out of the reservoir. But the spillways sustained damage during Sundays flooding. Officials are attempting to measure that damage as they consider next steps.
The dam is solid, said Bill Croyle, acting director for the California state Department of Water Resources, during a press conference. The control structure has been damaged.

Just before President Donald Trumps inauguration, President Barack Obama managed to attach his name to a major water infrastructure spending initiative. In December, Obama signed the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act into law, authorizing hundreds of millions of dollars for water infrastructure projects around the country. The bill further enables the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to pursue certain prescribed projects, including the construction of levees in the Sacramento River floodplain (which entails the Feather River).
I'm wishing all my friends in NorCal stay safe. Fortunately, I don't know anyone in Oroville, Yuba City or Marysville anymore. It's kind of like the Surrey, Vancouver, B.C. of California up there. ;)
President Trump should not even be IN this conversation, he has not been in office a month yet. Blame the Liberal darlings, BHObama and Jerry Brown, who found no reason to spend money on CALIFORNIA’s dam.
Meanwhile Jerry Brown has been asking for help from Trump.
Hilarious. Secession can’t come fast enough.
In December .. the Republican Congress was successful in having the Water Infrastructure ... signed into law .... blah blah blah. Obama did nothing but approve the Republican Congress' work instead of vetoing it.
And .. the Gov of CA is responsible for the lax repair of this DAM. This is not the President’s fault - the Gov never asked for assistance to fix the spillways - during the extreme dryness we have experienced the last few years. The repair could have been done years ago .. and all of this would have been avoided.
However, Gov Brown is not fit to run anything.
Pretzel logic
No, save that for when the Earthquake hits...
I prefer "Gov. Brown, you didn't build that...oh wait, I guess you *did*"
This article is a total waste of time: everybody already knows the Oroville disaster is President Trump’s fault: CNN said so ...
Okay, as long as you're at it, why not blame him for the South Fork Dam collapse, the Mulholland Dam collapse, and the freakin' Hindenberg to boot!
I also understand Trump was the one who ordered Capt. Smith to ignore the icebergs and push Titanic full speed ahead.
Wow. Is this guy really that stupid?! Hard to believe. Trump has not been in office for a full month yet, and a problem that festered under Obama for his ENTIRE TERM is proof that Trump does not understand infrastructure and has a bad plan? Just WOW. Talk about insanity.
PS No, I will not login or give them my other login information to post this comment there. Tempted to, but think this just may be click bait and/or data gathering bait.
Global Warming believers thought there would never be snow in the Sierra’s again.
Pray America woke
Seems I recall a request eight years for all states to identify all “shovel ready” projects as Zero was going to give away over $800 billion of our money.
As California didn’t come forward with this known problem, this is all California’s fault.
“Why weren’t the repairs done to the dam while the water was low and controllable”
You ask why its simple you are a racist
It is all Gov Jerry Brown's fault. The state knew they had a problem since 2006. In 2013 a hole blew open in the main spillway. The state is 80 percent responsible for maintenance of the structure, yet neglected to repair the problem. They had almost 4 years to fix it, and did nothing. Meanwhile, Gov Brown goes begging to the feds for billions of fed dollars for his pet train projects. All while screaming at President Trump that the state doesn't need fed money that may be blocked due to state sanctuary policies; Gov Brown says the state can build its own satellites and anything else it needs. What an a$$ he is. Says he doesn't need fed money, at the same time secretly goes begging for fed money. I agree with you, he isn't fit to run anything.
The fact of the matter here is this is a Cal state dam and lake, not Corps of Engineers. Cali has money for all sorts of weird and wonderful projects (education, health care, etc for nontaxpaying illegals), but basic infrastructure - not so much. BO had 8 yrs to fix this - 8 yrs of draught when the lake was so low, the work would have been a piece of cake. And they want to dump on Trump.
Well dang. Thanks for calling me out on the double post though.
