BEIRUT (AP) Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview released on Friday that the United States is welcome to join the battle against "terrorists" in Syria as long as it is in cooperation with his government and respects the country's sovereignty.
Speaking with Yahoo News, Assad said he has not had any communication direct or indirect with President Donald Trump or any official form the new U.S. administration.
But the Syrian leader appeared to make a gesture to the new U.S. president in the interview, saying he welcomes Trump's declaration that he will make it a priority to fight terrorism a goal Assad said he also shares.
However, Assad's government has labelled all armed opposition to his rule including the U.S.-backed rebels as "terrorists."
"We agree about this priority," Assad said of Trump. "That's our position in Syria, the priority is to fight terrorism."

It seems clear that Trump and Putin are committed to assisting this.
Today I saw signs that Turkey is ready to listen to good advice.
Kurds and Arabs in the SDF are 5km from Raqqa. The approach was clearly smooth. The actual move to take Raqqa does not appear to have happened yet. But residents are fleeing and moving to shelter away from the city. The Dam is still in the hands of ISIS, although SDF troops are far past that toward the city.
Lets all pray this brings the civil war in Syria to an end. And ISIS gone.
With President Trump at the helm, I can support this because it would be done right with the right intentions.
But the NeoCon nutjobs (and you know who you are) better not get any ideas.
Air support for troops fighting ISIS is great.
No men.
There will be more fighting even after ISIS is defeated among Kurds and Turkey and God knows who else.
No boots. Not one.
” ..... Assad’s government has labelled all armed opposition to his rule including the U.S.-backed rebels as “terrorists.”

That’s pretty much what most of these rebels are. They’re terrorists.
Could the world finally be united now that the terrorist enabling, and funding, scumbag Obama is gone?
Seems so
They are already there. No one knows the number for sure, but I’ve heard speculation from 100-200 Special OPs involved. Aircraft carrier has been in place for several days and they began flying missions early this week.
SDF forces are poised very close to ISIS. (If they are not already engaged) They have taken several towns on the way there but are at Raqqa now.
How many Syrian civilians have died because of Obama and Hillary’s meddling? They are all war criminals.
Since Assad is and has been in bed with the Iranian regime- the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world - the whole notion that he wants to fight terrorism is laughably absurd.
NeoCons are out of the loop from what I can see.
Totally agree with you. This is to end ISIS.
What Obama avoided for long time.
estimates? 3-400,000
Yes, I agree. Assad has Hezbollah fighting with the SAA. Some of the Iranian special forces groups are there too.
“How many Syrian civilians have died because of Obama and Hillarys meddling? They are all war criminals.”
Many, many thousands. No one working for the MSM will ever admit it, however.
Please read the entire article at the link. It was listed as AP and I excerpted the article.
It is apparent that Russia & Trump are on same page on this.
McCain and his girlfriend won’t like this one bit.
We need to fight Russia, Dammit!
The path to what passes as stability in the Middle East is to support and ensure Assad establishes law and order in Syria.
400,000 so far.
You left out McCain and Kerry.
What’s a million Chinese? Put them there. They don’t mess around. They can sort it out in their interests.
Agree. There can be no better outcome. It’s not perfect, Assad is not the good guy. But the Blood letting must stop, AFTER ISIS is GONE!
There is no saint in this mix. But at least under Assad, Christians lived without fear. It was a secular country, basically.
