The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee wants the committee to look into potential disciplinary action against Kellyanne Conway for plugging Ivanka Trump‘s brand on Fox News this morning.
After President Trump raised ethical questions with his tweet about Nordstrom yesterday, Conway repeatedly encouraged Fox viewers this morning to go purchase goods from the company run by the president’s daughter.
Elijah Cummings, ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to committee chair Jason Chaffetz calling Conway’s remarks “a textbook violation of government ethics laws and regulations enacted to prevent the abuse of an employee’s government position.”
He calls Conway’s breach of ethics rules “jaw-dropping” and wants the committee to take action:
Since the Committee has direct jurisdiction over the ethics laws applicable to White House employees, I request that the Committee make an official referral of this matter to the Office of Government Ethics and request that it report back to the Committee as soon as possible with its findings.
For the record, Chaffetz was asked about Trump’s Nordstrom tweet yesterday and said he didn’t see the big deal about it.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has already filed an ethics complaint against Conway.

So far the dems are keeping their strategy of attacking the smallest, most petty issues and turning them into a near act of Congress.
Lets hope they continue for another two years and they’ll get obliterated in the mid term elections.
The Trump Administration and Chavetz need to CRUSH this stupidity in its tracks, concede NOTHING, give no quarter to the enemy.
This is outrageous B.S. and Cummings needs to be rhetorically stomped into a four foot diameter throw rug-—and then totally, totally ignored after that. We own the House, Cummings needs to be treated like nasty little gnat that he is.
And henceforth TOTALLY IGNORE ANY FAKE NEWS QUESTIONS on this ridiculous, petty complaint. Reporters asking these questions are dead to President Trump and his spokespersons.
The left is hysterical. How can they compete against beauty and brains? Destroy, that’s all they’ve got!
OF course they are going to make a federal case out of it, anything anyone in this administration does will be turned into a giant mountain no matter the molehill..
On the flip side though, she probably shouldn’t have done what she did, even though its clear that Ivanka was targeted for politics.

It is a trivial thing, but they are likely correct. As a government employee, she really shouldn’t be going on TV and recommending that people buy things from the Ivanka’s company.
Don’t need an ethics complaint. Just someone say “hey, you shouldn’t do that”. I’m sure she’ll understand when she thinks about it.
Why doesn’t “Bloody Hands” Cummings investigate himself for giving Shrillary cover for Benghazi, and for giving Holder cover on Fast and Furious?
