The confessed killer of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano told detectives he hated the victims predominantly white neighborhood of Howard Beach, leading cops to believe race played a role in the murder, sources told The Post.
I dont like those people over there, said Chanel Lewis, 20, who is black and split time between homes in the largely impoverished neighborhoods of East New York and Brownsville, according to sources.
Lewis made the statement to a black detective when asked why he killed Vetrano, who was found strangled in Spring Creek Park. His comment caused cops to believe race was a factor in Vetranos slaying, sources said.
A white detective initially tried twice to get Lewis to talk and he refused, according to sources.
But when the black detective, Barry Brown, interviewed him, Lewis waived his Miranda rights and gave two videotaped statements, confessing hed hit and choked the jogger on Aug. 2.
Brown is known as a highly skilled officer and the best detective in Queens for getting confessions, sources said.

Who cares WHY... just fry him.
'Chanel' just doesn't like white people and that drives him to rape and murder them.
He wasn’t ‘angry and upset.’ He was and is a racist white hating black. He should be tried under hate-crime guidelines.
That’s a perfect shot right there! How come no takers?
Where’s the op eds about the “Dangerous Rhetoric” from the left leading to actual violence?
Left wing TV talk show hosts are obviously to blame!
Reverse the races and that’d be the narrative.
Great. Now we can expect white people of the area to riot, loot, and burn their neighborhood, just like they always do. /s
Thinking Jack Ruby........
Yes....
Re “WHY”:
I posted this because this WON’T make other MSM sources. NY Post is owned by Murdoch.
But reverse the races it’d be NYT WaPo ABC CBS NBC that race was the primary motive.
This syndrome of hate indoctrination against whites is very like the “Palestinians” and their hate indoctrination towards Israeli Jews. Boils down to “Itbach al-Whitey”.
I'm sure Detective Brown he is given a lot of latitude when it comes to the -- uh, "methods" he uses to extract confessions.
Most of the suspects he deals with are morons.
ANYONE speaking to police after arrest is making a big mistake. Ask for your lawyer and shut up.
Doesn’t take violence to get morons to implicate themselves.
Virtually NOT ONE DAY GOES BY when there isn’t a story like this! Just how long are we supposed to sit back and allow it to continue? Yesterday it was a 50 year old white veteran who was shot to death “for just returning home!” For me, the only near-term answer is nationwide Constitutional Carry. Cops will never stop this. They just bat cleanup!

Maybe not anymore since he’s been named here.
Suspect: Detective Brown? Oh, no, I ain’t talkin’ to you ‘cause you’ll make me confess.
Because we are a civilized nation of laws.
Even with convincing people to defend themselves, you have to acknowledge the reality. If you use a firearm to defend yourself or your loved ones, you WILL be financially ruined by the state. COUNT ON IT!
God forbid you have a glass of wine at dinner before you dispatch your mugger. You will go straight to jail. That is a reality that must be changed.
Then what the hell was he doing there then? I'm very familiar with that area of Howard Beach, and it is a very private residential area. I think the only thing other than the huge beautiful homes are a few churches. Stores and such are located outside the area on Cross Bay Blvd. And the spot where he attacked the girl was even more off-the-beaten-track, a large wooded/grassy area. There is no reason on earth for outsiders to be in that neighborhood, except of course for visiting residents or doing work there. There are no parks that would or should attract outsiders. Just a playground or two.
Thanks. No one here knew that before. You answered a question that was not asked.
