The Utah House called Friday for a convention of the states to consider new amendments to the U.S. Constitution, which supporters said is the only way to rein in an out-of-control federal government.
It passed HJR3 on a 45-29 vote, and sent it to the Senate for consideration.
The resolution calls for a convention that would consider amendments to "impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress."
"We are in jeopardy of losing our republic," said HJR3's sponsor, Rep. Merrill Nelson, R-Grantsville. "States are no longer equals in our government. States must be restored to their roles as sovereign, equal partners."

uh, no
Where were they the past eight years? (crickets)
Yes!
The Utah House has been very high profile about fighting the federal government on land issues. I wish all the Western States were like them.
Where were they the past 28 years?
Utah is applying using the Georgia language. As of right now, there are 8 states that have applied using the Georgia language: AL, AK, FL, GA, IN, LA, OK, TN.
Nope. Too many stealth Marxists. Wanna change the constitution? Write and submit an amendment. A convention is national suicide.
Let’s Roll.
This isn’t going to pass...if they would make a law to save our lands, then maybe, but this will be voted down...
Salt Lake City is a city that attracts to many people coming over the border, and as the Mayor of Salt Lake said, she won’t let anything hurt what she has planned...(whatever that means)???
The Mormon Church will tell this ‘government body’ what they can and can’t do...
So you think most of the legislatures in State are stealth Marxists and 2/3 States would go along with Marxists ideas?
Despite assurances otherwise, I continue to believe erring on the side of safety is the best policy here.
What we open the constitutional convention to address, WILL NOT be the only thing addressed.
Submit amendments. Let them run their course.
So far, nobody is submitting any. Evidently we don’t have the number of allies we thought we did.
I agree. The American IQ is nothing compared to the Founders’ time.
The ability to officially destroy the Constitution has always been the Marixst goal.
They already destroyed it in 1913, but it was unconstitutional and if our Congress had guts like Ron Paul, they could take back our Constitution. That is what the Marxists are frightened of—people like Ron Paul who think outside their little Marxist-programmed box.
The Constitution is like Dorothy’s red (silver) shoes; she always had the power right along to get back to Kansas and WE have the power if we had some virtuous Congressmen, to bring back our true Justice system.
That document is the most brilliant, just, political system in the history of mankind, and any mind programmed in today’s “skools” are anti-Christian and unable to think critically, and would not be capable of creating anything so perfect.
You believe 3/4 of states are controlled by Marxists?
I’d love to see term limits.
But I think there’s another way to look at it. With term limits we risk getting a collection of obamas in the federal legislature bought and paid for by a Soros. In other words, it could get worse.
29 people in UTAH...voted against this...
There are too numerous to count useful idiots out there. I see no good coming from opening up the convention for purposes of amending the USC.
Hallelujah!!!
Praying it passes their Senate now.
The land grabs by the Feds are hitting closer to home in Texas now. There are headlines fairly regularly about the goings-on up on the Red River and I think more folks here are paying attention to the land grabs in the western states now.
I speak only of my small circle of aquaintences. Up till rec3ntly if I mentioned the BLM mess out west I was met with negative responses. Idiots. Since it’s happening in counties here folks are thinkin differently. Shame it has to be this way. Faster people wake up, faster we can stop those thieves.
