No Men Need Apply: Women's Car Service Should Be Welcomed, Not Sued
Townhall.com ^ | 3 Feb 2017 | Jeff Jacoby

Safr, a ride-hailing company for women, is planning to open for business in Boston next month. By hiring only female drivers and picking up only female passengers, the new enterprise aims to serve women who don't feel comfortable getting alone into a car with a male stranger. Here's to Safr's success — may the company encounter only happy customers.

More likely, it will encounter James J. Foster. Or someone just like him.

I completely agree with you, IM. If freedom of association were still permitted in the private sector, all such companies could operate and compete freely.

Nice concept — fails in practice.

Yes. Individual liberty is a nice concept. What is your point though?

No, so long as freedom of association for men is prevented by law, women don’t get it either.

I’m sick of hearing feminists attack men where it’s to their benefit, then turning into precious defenseless women where it’s to their benefit.

Choose. You’re equal in every respect, both the good and the bad, or you are not.

Just say you “identify” as a woman, and thus are legally one in the eyes of the law in crazy liberal places like Boston. If they don’t like it, sue.

The insanity of our current society will probably doom companies like Safr, and it's too bad. I think any company in the private sector should be allowed to serve whoever it pleases. It could still be managed if it weren't for the packs of slavering leftists who are determined to destroy the private sector, and the trial lawyers who are more than willing to help them.

>> Individual liberty is a nice concept

Unfortunately, your point concerned further concessions without ensuring such liberty.

If women can see why a female only thing is great, they should sign off on any all male endeavors.

I totally agree with you, DoughtyOne. Too many women today want all the privileges men have earned, but don't want to take the risks necessary to earn them. As all my posts on this thread have stated, I'm for freedom of association throughout the private sector.

There is no way this company should be allowed to function until there can be all-male Golf Clubs and all-boy Boy Scout Troops again.

I completely agree with you, CW. All-male and all-female companies and organizations in the private sector SHOULD be permitted, as well as companies for specific races, religions, ethnicities, etc. In a free society, people should be able to associate with anyone they wish. If I'm dumb enough to start an all-Chinese restaurant, for example, ignoring a huge potential market of non-Chinese customers, that should be my decision. And it would be a perfect opportunity for an enterprising person of another ethnicity to start a competing restaurant and drive me out of business. Or maybe we'd both flourish. In a free society, that's how it would work. Of course, I realize we're no longer a free society, and I don't imagine Safr will survive.

The first amendment freedom to peacefully assemble includes for the purpose of business.

Well said, tax control!

What would happen to a car service called, say, “Macho”, that hired only male drivers and would pick up only male riders?

In a free society, such a company would be permitted in the private sector and would thrive or not depending on whether it could attract enough customers. I do, however, realize we're no longer in a free society.

If you stuff two or more liberal women in a car, they’ll likely get lost or commit suicide - or both.

Heh!

Good luck with gender specific businesses in an insane world where people pretend there’s no such thing as gender specific.

In a nutshell.
