The Coming Clash with Iran
WND ^ | Feb. 2, 2017 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 02/02/2017 6:21:18 PM PST by Tours

When Gen. Michael Flynn marched into the White House Briefing Room to declare that “we are officially putting Iran on notice,” he drew a red line for President Trump. In tweeting the threat, Trump agreed.

His credibility is now on the line.

And what triggered this virtual ultimatum?

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, said Flynn, attacked a Saudi warship, and Tehran tested a missile, undermining “security, prosperity and stability throughout the Middle East,” placing “American lives at risk.”

But how so?

The Saudis have been bombing the Houthi rebels and ravaging their country, Yemen, for two years. Are the Saudis entitled to immunity from retaliation in wars they start?

....Or are we going to carry out any retaliation alone, as our NATO allies observe, while the Israelis, Gulf Arabs, Saudis and the Beltway War Party, which wishes to be rid of Trump, cheer him on?....

Bibi Netanyahu hailed Flynn’s statement, calling Iran’s missile test a flagrant violation of the U.N. resolution and declaring, “Iranian aggression must not go unanswered.” By whom, besides us?

The Saudi king spoke with Trump Sunday. Did he persuade the president to get America more engaged against Iran?.....

...High among the reasons that many supported Trump was his understanding that George W. Bush blundered horribly in launching an unprovoked and unnecessary war on Iraq....

What? We attacked this ship? why? What did they do to us on that ship? I am pretty caught up. I didn’t know we attacked this ship. That is a war crime?

Personally, I think the Iraq invasion had merits but it was mismanaged and then, botched during Prez. O’s administration. But the press and a lot of other people were able to use that war against the GOP.

Trump has pulled the GOP up; nothing would hurt the good will created than some haphazard war.

We must remember, there are indeed, times when you do need to act in a conflict.

I just read some other articles, if anything, this would probably be sanctions which I’m okay with.

Hey, gaij, O/T, but while I have you... the Obamas left in Sir Richard Branson’s jet from Palm Springs to his private BVI isle Necker, where he has secure private SAT communications.. then the Yemeni op was suddenly blown when the raid was expected and prepared for...

Then Elon Musk loses lefty customers over saying something friendly about Trump... while his SpaceX payload contained some Israel tech, some say a SAT... is Branson doing Soros’ job in the UK?

Go listen to some of Mattis’s speeches. The main source of support for radical, political Islam is Iran. The war on terror is not likely to be over till Iran is over. At least that is the way I read what Mattis has said.

He has also noted that more muslims have been killed by these evil people than non muslims. He has fought side by side with muslim allies, and he doesn’t believe in deserting them. He specifically has mentioned Jordan, and criticized Obama for not recognizing when they condemned the radicals and showed support.

Way back years ago, Iran accused USA of shooting down a civilian airplane. They declared a Fatwa and decreed that 10 planes must be crashed to even the score.

The first was Pan Am over Lockerbie Scotland. TWA 800 also counts I think, because Lil George Stephenapolas was talking about terrorist attacks, and included it in the list he was talking about.

There were four planes accomplished for the 9/11 attacks. They won’t quit until the fatwa is over. Not saying I agree, but just adding info to the conversation. I’m truly hoping that Mattis will have some other way to get the job done too-get out of the Middle East.

to want to avoid unnecesary conflict is something i understand and can applaud, except that .....
it cannot safely be carried to extremes...

when you have a bunch of very very dangerous and hostile IslamoNazis like the ruling clique of Iran...threatening to “eliminate the Great Satan” (and other nations)...but USA as their FIRST, TOP priority...as their “Great Satan” — and after Iran has published their list of their top 6 targets in USA (NYC, ChiTown, LA, SF, WashDC and I think it was Boston)
and after they’ve broken their “deal” with Obama (A DEAL THAT IS NOT WITH USA, only with their IslamoNazi BF Obama)
then......
we will probably have to take out their WMD’s (Nuclear bombs and ICBM”s that Obama has financed for them)

or else they will take us out, as they continually threaten or promise to do, with those same WMD’s

and PatB ...is a very bright fellow but cannot cannot cannot be entrusted with American defense decisions, he is an eternal isolationist and that is what got us into so much trouble (being unprepared and having done nothing to stop) WW2. The original Nazis could have been taken out almost anytime in the 1930’s, but nobody including USA wanted to do it....these IslamoNazis can be taken out (or at least, their worst weapons can be taken out) now.....

(we MUST learn from history or else, as we all know, we will be doomed to repeat it)...

we live in an all-too-real world, and putting one’s head in the sand when such seriously dangerous and insane people are threatening to nuke us.................only leaves our butts up in the air (until, of course, we get them blown off us for good)

just saying, listen to Buchannan on a lot of things, but please NOT national defense/foreign policy. He’s a winner on maybe 500 things but he’s a dead loser on this one

I’ve a lot of time for Jim Mattis, He is savvy and is on record saying he thought the war in Iraq was a strategic mistake, but had to go along with it because of “higher powers”.

I’d like to see Mullahs’ regime in Iran dismantled, but do not think militarily invading Iran to do so is a good strategy, at all.

Not only because it will take Decades for the US to stabilize the situation in that region in general, and millions upon millions will be killed, it will also embolden the Sunnis & Wahhabist/Salafists such as: Saudis, Gulf states and alike, who are Known to train, fund and support ISIS & AQ.

IF the US wants to further empower the Wahhabi/Sunni/Salafists, in the ME, North Africa, supported by Saudis/Gulf States, and by default in the West, by attacking Iran, then do it.

But, we don’t live in GWB era. And, the Iran regime is not Saddam or Gaddafi. The consequences all-around will be devastating.

The U.S. would do well to steer clear of a foreign policy that is driven by knuckleheads like Lindsey Graham (R-Saudi Arabia) and John McCain (R-ISIS). I would have hoped that the election of Donald Trump would severely diminish the foreign ownership of our government.

>>”There were four planes accomplished for the 9/11 attacks. They won’t quit until the fatwa is over.”<<

Are you suggesting Iranians were responsible for 9/11 attacks? If so, give specific sources and names for saying so, beyond ‘adding to conversation’. It’s been 15 years since. All evidence so far clearly points to Saudis and their satellites.

>>”Way back years ago, Iran accused USA of shooting down a civilian airplane.”<<

Which civilian plane? Iran Air Flight 655? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655 — if yes, the US did shoot it down in Iranian airspace! Even paid compensation for it afterwards.

>>”He (J. Mattis ??) has also noted that more muslims have been killed by these evil people than non muslims.”<<

Are you concerned about Muslims or even generally Iranians? Somehow I don’t think so.

If you’re genuinely concerned about muslims, then, you should consider millions of muslims killed in the ME due to Iraq and Afghanistan invasions, and not by Iranians!

To be fair, maybe I’m misunderstanding your comment - tho it doesn’t make much sense to me. Also, See #31.

I don’t necessarily go along with this verdict but a court ruled and I’ve heard at least Joseph Lieberman mention this.

I wish I could find it and I read it in the last week; it was an Iranian-American who wrote an article saying Iran was not our enemy. It was persuasively written at that. I admire General Jim Mattis greatly but apparently, he has harbored some feelings, maybe grudges, on Iran for over 30 years, something to watch.
