Its been almost a year since Senate Republicans took an empty Supreme Court seat hostage, discarding a constitutional duty that both parties have honored throughout American history and hobbling an entire branch of government for partisan gain.
President Trump had a great opportunity to repair some of that damage by nominating a moderate candidate for the vacancy, which was created when Justice Antonin Scalia died last February. Instead, he chose Neil Gorsuch, a very conservative judge from the federal Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit whose jurisprudence and writing style are often compared to those of Justice Scalia.
If Judge Gorsuch is confirmed, the court will once again have a majority of justices appointed by Republican presidents, as it has for nearly half a century. For starters, that spells big trouble for public-sector labor unions, environmental regulations and womens access to contraception. If Trump gets the chance to name another justice, the consequences could be much more dire.
In normal times, Judge Gorsuch a widely respected and, at 49, relatively young judge with a reliably conservative voting record would be an obvious choice for a Republican president.

This silliness about Scalia being “murdered” makes no sense. If anyone had an interest in knocking off a Supreme Court justice in the interest of pursuing a legal/political agenda, why would they pick such an old guy who was probably going to retire within a few years anyway?
Your opinion only.
I do see her stepping down because even liberals get tired.
If that were the case she would have retired years ago. She falls asleep and drools onto her dirty black robe during oral arguments.
That is why she is the next to retire.
I find it amusing that Trump moved the announcement of his pick up from Thursday. This pick is the equivalent of pulling a squirrel out of a bag and throwing into the press room for them all to chase. The left will now be enraged about this pick and take the focus off of immigration.
Plus if not mistaken, Trump has on his list a woman justice or two.
Your IMHO and no more than that.
Excellent. Trump will not make the mistake of appointing a left wing activist jurist as his republican predecessors did.
Lamentations of an Old Gray Whore
Sorry, it is just not in my nature to ever offer ‘humble’ opinions. They are usually loud, proud and ‘in-your-face’.
While I view it as just that: IMHO.
If Schumer and the Dems are successful, they may need to flee to Canada and...Oh wait. Trudeau is loading Canada with folks who hate and KILL Jews and Christians. But if they DO head north, I hope they take Amy with them!

Do you even know what “IMHO” stands for?

Do not think the left really wants to go there with the way Scalia died and how that was handled. The right has a great argument for that seat being stolen.
With Trump as President, I think Ginzy will stay in until she’s a mummy. I suspect it’s Kennedy - he’s 80 & with picks like Gorsuch from Trump, I believe he’d be comfortable stepping down.
I hope he gets to make 5, like Eisenhower. But I do wish Kennedy would retire now, or for that matter, Ginsburg. Who needs her nodding off through arguments and ruminating on philosophy?!
I have wondered why she didn’t. What you said sounds plausible.
