Liberals used to hate secession, the notion that states could leave the Union as they did before the Civil War because they didnt agree with the policies of the federal government. But with Donald Trumps election, many California liberals suddenly have warm words for a budding ballot initiative that has just begun collecting signatures in order to place secession, or Calexit, on the ballot.

The heavily leftist areas appear to be the Bay Area and the Los Angeles Basin, with a few “satellites” scattered around like Palm Springs. If the goal is a truly representative government that represents the people governed, there would be at least three states. There are conservative counties in the far north, central and far south coastal counties, so it’s not just inland although inland counties predominate by far and away. Then, there’s Tahoe. Blue.
Ratification Vote by state legislature on splitting NY and California:
.
48 -No
2 - Yes
While California will not exit the USA, it would be a good think for the rest of the USA if it did. The Dems would lose 55 electoral votes sparing the rest of us from another Clinton or Obama who run as centrists but are really far leftists.
California will crash and burn as a separate nation and will be forced to seek reentry into the USA. If the members of Congress are smart at that time (Yeah, I know!) they will insist on creating the California Territory and have it run by a territorial government for at least twenty years. At the end of the twenty year period, the California Territory will be slowly divided into smaller states allowing the more conservative parts of the territory to enter the Union first and the most liberal parts of the territory later. Of the five states admitted, two with a bit over half the population would contain most of the liberals. The other three will contain the conservative part of the territory. The Democrats will get a lock on about 30 electoral votes. The Republicans will get a lock on about 65 electoral votes.
If the people of California refused to become a territory upon reentry, let them join Mexico as California Norte.
Agree. But if the north-south divide ever occurred, there would be a final exodus of the majority of the tax-paying conservatives left in what would then be the ultra-lib/progress/Mexican southern half of a state utterly controlled by LA.
The Founders predicted the vile corruption of big cities.
California has one of the most educated and advanced workforce in the world. It’s GDP is 9th in the world. If Portugal can be a country then California could certainly be one. The arguments against this are getting ridiculous.
Valley is very conservative too - farmers.....Victor Davis Hanson.....
And so is San Diego....
Also in VA......
Cut off West Coast, Illinois, and NE - “The Communist States of America” - that’s their name.....or at least “The Socialist States of America”
The states of MA,CT,RI,NH,ME and VT are over represented in the US Senate. As California leaves the I think those 6 states should be combined into one state with just 2 senators instead of 12! Call it the state of New England.
Show me a plan that would take back CA and NY and I’m with you......
CalMexit
Propose a trade to Canada: New England, NY, NJ, WA, OR and CA*, ** for Alberta, Manitoba and a province to be named later
* all CA WA OR West of mountain ranges
** US will retain Bremerton, San Diego, 29 Palms, March AFB, Fort Lewis, McCord AFB, Travis AFB and other military bases in CA, WA
2 more Senators from there? no.
As a conservative Californian, I’m thinking about a three step process.
1. I’m thinking about hiring out to collect Calexit signatures in front of our Whole Foods and Target stores.
Beside making good money for each signature. A Calexit will destroy the national rat party. They would never win a national election vote wise without Californicator illegal voters. They would lose 2 senators Fineswine and our new left wing fascist Senator and 38 Congressits including Pelosi. That would put control of Congress into Republican hands for decades, destroying the rats nationally.
2. Then, I would help with the succession from CalExit to the State of Jefferson (Southern Oregon counties and California counties down to at least Fresno). Those counties are some of the most conservative voting counties in the nation. That would give us 2 more conservative senators and about 12-14 conservative congressmen.
3. The new State of Jefferson would control the food, water and energy that the new Calexit country needs. We could charge whatever we want, cut off the Hetch Hechy water for gay Frisco and no water for the LA Raza LA area. In a few weeks without food, water and energy, the new country of CalExit would beg to come back to America. We might allow them to be a Puerto Rico type area with no $inators and no Congressits. They would be governed by strict conservatives like Jim Robinson and his friends.
To Calexit dreamers, be careful of what you wish for.
California should secede - the libs will never win another national election, which will cause even more libs to leave the US. Where’s the downside?
Well, I’m in the South region (San Diego), and we are sort of conservative - like the North .. IT’S REALLY THE MIDDLE THAT’S THE PROBLEM: SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES.
Those 2 large cities are the real problem with CA.
So, if you’re going to divide up the state .. it should be:
North
Central
South
But, if the State divides in two, or leaves the USA, I’ll be moving.
And Illinois!
There’s the minor problem of Art 4 Sec 3 in the Constitution:
Section 3
1: New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
