Back to Videos De Blasio: We Will Take Trump To Court If He Attempts To Pull Federal Funds

On CNN Thursday morning, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that if the Trump administration attempts to pull federal funds from 'sanctuary cities,' New York will take them to court.

"New York City has half a million undocumented people, we want them to come forward and work with the police, if they see a drime or are a victim of crime. If they believe by talking to a police officer, they would get deported... they are not going to work with police," he said about the 'sanctuary cities' label.

"This is about human beings, families that came here," he said. "I want people to follow the law, I don't think people should violate our borders, but let's face it, this has been a problem in our country for hundreds of years."

Trump should make a preemptive strike and file a class action suit against all the cities, colleges, schools and the executives who initiated the sanctuary policies seeking fines and jail time in accordance with US law. In conjunction cut off federal funds

I just don’t understand! For decades the gov’t has threatened to pull federal funds from states if the states don’t do as the gov’t says. For instance, the feds tell states they will pull funds from schools or hospitals if they don’t obey. How does the sanctuary city situation different?
The city doesn’t obey, so the feds pull the funds. The state doesn’t obey so the feds pull the funds. Isn’t this the same ie a good analogy?

They will argue that Congress placed no restrictions on the funding requiring them to follow immigration law. They will argue that Congress appropriated the money for certain purposes and Trump doesn’t have the authority to impound the funds.

Trump will need two new conservative USSC justices to win that one.

Let's see Trump is going to stack the courts with his appointees.

Trump is going to suggest the new federal Budget and hopefully Congress will pass it.

Trump is going to have executive orders and the Justice Department implementing his policies and the laws Congress (which is now Republican in both houses) writes.

Boy does it sound dumb to litigate and fight that, but Democrats have never seemed all that bright.

OK, but you’ll have to use city money for the lawyers.

President Trump should also use the bully pulpit and tell citizens of Sanctuary Cities if they don’t like it they should object by calling, sending letters, emailing and holding peaceful protests.

Uh, Bill? You might want to get the Miami Mayor on the phone...

That 11 million number is ancient news, decades old. If you had 11 rabbits 10 years ago, what are the chances you still have only 11 rabbits?

I think one of the old problems was that the Feds haven't been paying the prison system for holding illegals....so they let them go...

IIRC, Texas was one of the states that was really p**** about it.

Let him go ahead and take Trump to court if he takes back federal funds. Obama is gone now and things are a little saner. De Blasio would surely lose unless he gets one of Obama’s appointees.

If NYC has a half million illegal aliens all by themselves, how are we supposed to believe there are only 11 million across the country?”

That is a crap understatement done purposely. I remember when the issue came up in the 90’s and we were supposed to build the wall. It was estimated at over 20 million then. Then when Bush Jr. was Prez, it was between 20-40 million. Then Obummer became Perz and it miraculously dropped to 11 million. I would bet good money it is close to 40 million.

Hilarious. This nitwit who’s furious that the Electoral College elected POTUS instead of New York City, is demanding that the people in flyover country continue forking over cash to support lawbreakers in New York City.

W’s White House was using the 11 million figure when they were trying to pass amnesty.

At least a million a year have been crossing the border illegally plus visa overstays and we have 30-40 million illegal aliens.
None of them should be allowed to stay.
Trump has to stop USCIS from passing out any more free passes under DACA, every day that goes by with no action another 140-150 illegal aliens are given work permits and permission to stay on top of the 750,000 already issued.
Even if they don’t immediately rescind papers already issued they have to stop issuing new ones.

Now de blasio is such a commie moron. He can never win against the Feds.
1. Feds have a superior constitutional position and federal law has supremacy over your puny NYC garbage law.
2. The Feds have more lawyers and will win in lawfare.
3. The Feds can print money, and the commie in NYC can’t.
4. Trump can cut off whatever Fed funds he wants. So Trump would likely keep funding local NYC police involved in fighting terrorism, but cut off all the skanky commie pet projects that get Federal aid

The commie can’t win this game of chicken. When the other mayors fold, as in Miami, mayor commie will look like a moron.

“If NYC has a half million illegal aliens all by themselves, how are we supposed to believe there are only 11 million across the country?”

Yup. Having just returned from there I’m guessing the number just for greater LA alone is near 11 million, and nationwide the total is 25-30 million. IIRC the 11 million number has remained unchanged for two decades at least.
