President Trump will direct his secretary of homeland security to examine ways the administration can suspend grants to so-called "sanctuary cities," or areas where law enforcement agents do not enforce immigration laws, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Wednesday.
"What the executive order does is, it directs the secretary to ... look at funding streams that are going to these cities ... and figure out how we can defund those streams," Spicer said of an executive action Trump was expected to sign later in the day.
Spicer dismissed suggestions that Trump would seek to deport children who were brought into the country illegally by their parents. Those individuals, known as "dreamers," are protected under an Obama administration executive order.
"His priority with respect to immigration is, first and foremost, making sure that people who are in the country who seek to do us harm" are removed, Spicer said.

The court stopped DAPA. USCIS is still processing papers under the existing DACA policy.
Which has no legal basis.
Hit em where it hurts, no more free ride.
I need a nap now.
As I read the tea leaves, deporting DACA dreamers won’t happen.
With all due respect, my family is being harmed daily by the hordes of illegals who are unfairly competing with us for work in our industry. We can't underbid them, and have lost over a million dollars off our family table to them over the last decade or so.
I'm very much with the President in wanting to remove the most dangerous illegals immediately, but I want that followed up quickly with strong positive action to compel the rest to self deport.
This will be a battle, the opening shot has been fired.
Under the old “Single Audit” legislation for entities receiving more than $100,000 Federal Funds in a year, their financial statements must list all Federal Funds received and be foot noted.
If you get the audited financial report for each of the sanctuary cities it should give you the mix of all Fed Funds received from all sources.
CA will cave within 6 months. No way the employees Union allows their jobs to go unfunded.
I’m reading them the same way.
They are continually adding to that number daily, the USCIS is continuing to process applications under the existing illegal DACA policy.
Trump must stop at least the new applications even if they don’t rescind papers previously issued.
If we don’t deport DACA, how do we deport their parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc.?
Once we start making exceptions, we will end up deporting no one.
TOO. MUCH. WINNING.
Trump is wrong. I will never get sick of it.
Equal protection under the law - as long as ALL sanctuary cities are targeted, not just blue state ones then there is no case for a suit.
Doesn’t mean a thing. It’s just a piece of paper.
Correct, Obama made it up out of thin air.
Trump needs to at the very least stop any new applications, even if they don’t rescind papers already issued.
Lovin' it.
I guess I’m still not with the program. Every time I see something that starts with White House: I cringe.
Guess I’ll have to get past that.
Wednesday winning
I am going to be a bit of a contrarian here. I think there is a political danger to doing this especially if the president is trying to woo the black vote. These mayors will try to blame anything that goes wrong in these citius on racist trump pulling funding.
I applaud these actions, but more than anything, I’d like to see the President focus on turning off the magnets of jobs and welfare benefits for illegals.
If he just does that, the vast majority of them will self deport with no one’s assistance.
At the same time, the President will have robbed the left of the spectacle of mass deportations.
