DC Police will not be able to run on their body cameras at inauguration day protests. Washington DC All DC Police Officers have recently been outfitted with body cameras, but they will be in serious trouble if they have them on during the Inauguration Day protests.
NBC News 4s Mark Segraves reported that its against the law for body cameras to be on while police are at protests unless the officer is required to take action. This means that officers can turn the cameras on when they want to arrest somebody, but they will be unable to capture what led up to the arrest.

I don’t understand.
Hmmmm
This is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a long time.
Obama was the one bleating the loudest for body cameras.
Another lefty double standard.
Let’s have civilian anti-protesters do the filming instead.
Is the police chief black and liberal?
The question answers itself.
Whaaaaaat?????
>>I dont understand.
It’s a set up for the narrative that everything is protected by the First Amendment and that the cops overreacted by interfering with “peaceful protests”.
I know why, people want to kill Trump and any police officers who try to protect them should lack any evidence so that they can get sued for acting defensive.
That’s easy. So they won’t be able to ID protestors and so they won’t arrest morons out of fear the morons will file suit against them.
So, evidence will not be collected leading up to arrests.
This is going to come back and bite them in the a$$ bigtime.
I can tell you why they made this rule.
It could be seen as providing the ability to develop a database of people who protest peacefully.
These people are not going to be peaceful, and I would like to see the officer’s point of view on all this.
The media will be trying to make the police look bad, so I’d like to have the officer’s video rolling so we could see what they are actually dealing with.
I think that is vitally important in a situation where seditious acts are expected.
The video could help identify some people who commit criminal acts later, where the video in that instance doesn’t get a good shot of them.
Clothing garb can help identify a person, and another video can help tie them to a crime.
All people there should film as much as they can. Especially protestors’ faces. THESE are terrorists.
Obama led career criminals and other neer do wells.
NO VIDEO EVIDENCE
KNUCKLEHEADS
Could be countered if retired leo would seek out advantageous locations to do their own camera work.
You’d think the cops would want the body cams for their own protection, liability etc. This especially after hundreds of threats of violence from Democrats leading up to this event.
Very odd.
As a former DC patrolman, I can tell you that protests of all stripes in DC are routinely videotaped, regardless of whether the officers on the front lines have their body cams on. This is to identify violent protesters within the ranks of their otherwise peaceful brethren.
I read this as an apparent attempt by the protest organizers, aided and abetted by the local government, to conceal the identity of the protesters. It will not work.
So the terrorists won’t be deterred by their knowledge that the cameras are running. Super dumb because that’s the best possible non-violent deterrence. Of course, maybe that’s why it’s prohibited.
