A Michigan man is outraged after he was ticketed for heating up his car in his own driveway and then told by the police chief to drop dead after he complained to local media.
Taylor Trupiano, who posts on Facebook under the name Nick Taylor, posted a photo of the $128 ticket last week, which he found on his windshield after leaving his car running and unattended in his driveway in Roseville.
Lets all take a moment to thank officer dipst K. Keary for wasting the taxpayers money and giving me a ticket for warming up my car in my own damn driveway, Mr. Trupiano wrote, received more than 13,000 shares.

“It’s the stupidity of these people that have caused my auto insurance to sky rocket to over $2,000 per year since I live in this high risk auto insurance zone.”
Michigan has one of the highest insurance rates in the US, and not because of stolen cars. The reason: Michigan is the only state to offer unlimited lifetime medical care for auto-related injuries under its no-fault auto insurance system. (Per MLive 03-20-2013)
The article you referenced concerning Detroit-Warren-Dearborn highest number of “this kind of theft”, indicates people are leaving their cars running to run in to gas station for coffee, etc.
Would be interesting to see statistics of people warming up their car in their driveway .....if they are watching the car from inside their house, would this be considered “unattended”???
Bad police relations in Roseville..A joke, really....Maybe he forgot his donut that morning......
Michigan needs a new chief of police and a swamp draning.
Point missed, statute/law or not the cop could have knocked on the door and informed the guy vs a $125 ticket.
Cops a prick
>> inviting a theft << is not against the law, is it?
It is illegal then to leave your house door unlocked, with multiple padlocks no less.
Agreed! LOL!!
If there is a legal requirement in this jurisdiction for citizens to retreat and try to escape BEFORE engaging in any self defense, THEN YES, the officer should have been legally obligated to approach the house and try to determine what was really going on before issuing a citation. There could have been legitimate reasons (or even an emergency situation the police officer might have helped to resolve?) the man left the car unattended and the officer didt even attempt to gather any further information.
Legal robbery by the state. Nothing more.
Exiting the door tomorrow with a shotgum when the cop is 4 or 5 steps up your driveway asking him what the hell he is doing on your private property might be entertaining.
No, he was ticketed for leaving the car unattended and running. If he were in the car and it was warming up, there would have not been a ticket. Yes it’s a very silly law and if I were a cop I would use my discretion and not give a ticket. My only point was it was a misleading headline. The point being please read the article before commenting on it. Don’t just rely on the headline.
I believe you are a little confused as to the primary purpose of police in most communities. They are not there to "fight actual crimes". They are there to raise revenue for the local government. Going after actual criminals can be dangerous. Extorting money out of the law-abiding is safe, easy, and profitable.
Its dangerous, and of course it drives everyones insurance rates up. It drives our crime rates up.
++++
Next, it will be illegal to not lock your house, and for the same reasons.
The auto that was ‘running’ was ON HIS OWN PRIVATE PROPERTY...
come on....what the hell.
Well, I don't know about this guy's car, but I can start mine with the key fob from inside the house, so there's no key in the ignition and all the doors are locked. This is just another reason why we need to have an overhaul of how our cops operate. All too often, they are like dogs licking their balls. They do it because they can, and not for any discernable reason.
“The man was fortunate it was only the police. He could have faced the wrath of HOA Nazis over violating some obscure neighborhood regulations.”
Like flying an American Flag!
“I am a former LEO.”
Too bad most of them “on the job” today are not of the same mental persuasion as you appear to be.
“They are not there to “fight actual crimes”.”
And their guns are for “their protection,” not yours!
“The owner seems a little snowflakey to me”
The snowflakey thing is the thing.
When it is below zero and you need to go to wk are you going to hit the road without the defrosters working?
Or are you going to sit in a frozen car for 15 minutes waiting for it to warm up?
Bad ordnance if you ask me.
I simply do not favor oppressive “do-gooder” regulation of the type this law clearly is.
I guess your opinion differs. [shrug]
I wouldn’t support threatening a cop with a shotgun.
The crux of the matter.
Who said threaten? Im just carrying my shotgun to my warm car to celebrate the Trump election. It would probly be broken open and resting on my shoulder but legal requirements dont require that. He has a gun. I have a gun. He is on my private property and I just notified him of that fact. Leaving my car unattended while running on my property is not a felony, and the police have NO RIGHT to enter my property.
Do people that live in the northeast realize that the police actually have to follow the law as well as everyone else?
