Gingrich: Trump doesn't want to 'drain the swamp' anymore
The Hill ^ | December 21, 2016 | Paulina Firozi

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said in a new interview that Donald Trump has taken a different tone as president-elect and may be leaving behind his campaign promise to “drain the swamp.”

Gingrich told NPR's "Morning Edition" that he was told Trump “now says [the phrase] was cute, but he doesn’t want to use it anymore.”

Gingrich, who has been a close adviser to Trump, said he likes "drain the swamp" because it “vividly illustrates the problem, because all people in this city who are the alligators are going to hate the swamp being drained.”

“But, you know, he is my leader, and if he decides to drop the swamp and the alligator I will drop the swamp and the alligator,” he said.

Gingrich also said he’d noticed Trump’s change in attitude toward his supporters chanting “lock her up” at his post-election rallies, referring to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“Maybe he feels that, as president, as the next president of the United States, that he should be marginally more dignified than talking about alligators in swamps,” Gingrich said.

Of course, a thread referencing Gingrich wouldn’t have any value unless the Pelosi/Gingrich photo op wasn’t trotted out. Why not take it all the way and give the history on Gingrich’s two prior marriages?

Just as the MFM attempted to claim that President Trump would not build the great wall after he and the Mexicans living in America sat down for a chat.
Fake news in the first degree. Is pistol whipping still in fashion?

I see what your point is. The phrase was a success, and if the actions are going to match the phrase, why not use it? Depending on the coverage this gets, Trump can easily issue a Tweet or comment to respond.

I will say I don’t think anyone should blindly follow any politician. There should be a degree of skepticism or willingness to criticize if necessary. I will wait to see what Trump in office, though, before I say he isn’t adhering to what he promised. At this point, I will trust him.

Why does Newt feel compelled to get in front of leftist enemy NPR to opine this?

Newt needs to stay on the couch sitting next to Nancy demanding we accept tyranny to stop global warming.

The point is, Trump is smart enough to know he now has to deal with the people who live in the swamp, and continuing to disparage them this way is counter-productive. It was effective in campaigning, not so much in governing. He still wants to drain it, but just not say it that way.

If he doesn’t want to drain the swamp, he’s just another establishment suck-up. I’m starting to think the Trumps are just another criminal family enterprise like the Kennedys, Clintons, and Obamas. We’ll soon find out.

If we do not march on DC in support of Trump, there will not be a swamp draining.
I fully expect that before this time next year we will be plotting for a new party along with Trump and figuring out who needs to be primaried for the mid term elections

“For all the positives Newt can bring, he annoys the hell out of people with his need for attention and undermining comments as here.”

I am beginning to think Newt is a bipolar an doff his meds again.

i don’t care a hoot about “the swamp being drained”.

I DO care about making America great again; to wit:

1. build the wall.

2. drive out all criminal illegal aliens, including ID thieves.

3. bring back manufacturing jobs from overseas.

4. get rid of nafta and tpp.

5. rebuild our military: put warriors back in charge instead of pansies.

6. Make both our allies and enemies respect us; even better, make our enemies terrified of us.

7. mine coal, frack, drill for oil and gas offshore, onshore, everywhere.

8. eliminate BS regulations.

9. repatriate trillions in oversea profits at 10% tax to be invested in new factories.

10. put businessmen jail who don’t use e-verify.

1l. repeal and replace obamacare.

12. et. al.

What Gingrich said is that Trump is not going to use that phrase anymore. And in reality he should stop the use of the term. If he does go after certain people who should be in my opinion investigated by special prosecution the term draining the swamp will be a liability.

Ignore the Newt. What he says and what Donald does is two different things.

Can the criticism. I’ve been disappointed too many times, by President Reagan included. Let’s say I’ve become more than a little cynical with so-called reformers over the years. You need to start thinking yourself. There have been too many promises made and broken over the years.

Geez bud, buy a clue if you can’t think of one yourself.

Good God DON'T ANY OF YOU GET IT YET?

President Trump is a f*cking genius, the most media-savvy tycoon of a generation.

He used #unpresidented as distraction - and sure enough, he had spelled it correctly every other time.

He used the cover to appoint another conservative cabinet member.

Most real genius like to mix it up - so now he's using a brief convo with Gingrich to beard another chess move. It also gives GNewt some face time on cable.C'mon you all, keep up or you're going to get left behind...we are prosecuting the win and driving up the points.

You forgot to insert a graphic of Trump riding a donkey into town.

Trump said back when that he didn’t care for the phrase but it caught on so he went with it.

Hey, Donald, this is what you were hired to do so do it.
