Newspaper: Gee, Our Subscriptions Are Down Ever Since We Endorsed Hillary

The Dallas Morning News has endorsed a Republican in every presidential election, but decided to buck the trend and endorse two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton. That appears to have hit the publication’s bottom line, as scores of customers have decided to scrap their subscriptions. T. Becket Adams at The Washington Examiner had more:

"[S]ome people have cancelled their subscriptions, so we lost some customers at a time when it's tough to lose customers," editor Mike Wilson told the Washington Examiner Tuesday evening.

Earlier, in an interview with Poynter, Wilson said the Dallas Morning News experienced some unpleasant pushback after it announced its support for Clinton, breaking its more than 75-year-old tradition of endorsing GOP candidates for president.

"Certainly we've paid a price for our presidential recommendation, but then, we write our editorials based on principle, and sometimes principle comes at a cost," he said. "I've had a lot of conversations with readers lately, and I respect their views and their right to disagree with us. The most important thing to us is that they vote, even if it's not for our favorite candidate, because democracy doesn't work if people don't vote."

Dallas Morning News made their decision and they’re willing to accept the consequences, yet wasn’t denying Hillary Clinton the presidency the Right’s overriding principle for the 2016? Granted, I was not a Trump supporter - you all know this from my past blogs. I even said that he wouldn’t be the nominee, let alone the next president. But then he won the 2016 primary, he clinched the nomination, and now he’s going to be the next president of the United States. My guys, Rubio and Walker, had their shot. They lost. Trump won, he was the best shot we had to defeat Clinton, and so I had to fall in line. Given how things turned out, I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Clinton will never be president. That’s the best Christmas gift of all for the country. As for principle, it’s pretty clear that his cabinet isn’t filled with soft left-wingers. He’s made sound choices that have garnered the approval of ardent liberals, like John Kerry, to experienced Republicans in foreign policy, like former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Let’s see what he does—and I’m sure The Dallas Morning News will do the same. The era of Obama is over. The Trump presidency is about to begin.

We canceled the Orange County Register. We got an offer for the paper on only Thursday thru Sunday for around $25 for a year. We resubscribed at that rate. Before it was around $84 for 13 weeks. Huge savings.

“The most important thing to us is that they vote . . .”

Gosh, isn’t that a wonderfully pious, high-minded statement - unfortunately those jackwads forgot that a lot of people vote with their pocketbooks.

That’s exactly it! The Main Stream Media (aka Fake News) went off the cliff by going all in with Hillary. They quit pretending to be journalists.

They are completely irrelevant at this point. Paying attention to them is like paying attention to the Huffington Post, Solon or Mother Jones. They are a joke, and do not have a shred of objectivity.

They are all dead and just a shell of what they use to be 30 years ago.

“I respect their views.” Brain dead.

Counter example. If arsonist thinks it is good to burn down the homes of others, then I respect his view.

This “deplorable, Bible/gun clinging, misogynistic, racist, angry old white man” told the DMN where they could stick their paper, and it wasn’t in their mailbox. They endorsed Hillary Clinton on “principle”. REALLY??? Just exactly what “principle” are you referring to? The one where you endorse the most corrupt, traitorous and overblown-credentialed, hateful, mean-spirited gasbag in the history of our nation? REALLY??? No thanks. I will buy real toilet paper. No sense having my A$$ chapped twice!!! We have an old saying in Texas . . . “and the horse you road in on pardners”!!

...he doesn’t seem to get how truly despised the press and media are—doesn’t seem to link leftist bias with why so many newspapers are struggling.

Your brother's mindset is emblematic of what's wrong with the entire political left. Its why so many of them are shocked that Trump won the election. Its why they continue to double down on the same tired socialist, liberal policies, even as they lose elections from the presidency, down to the local council level. Its why their rhetoric sounds like something from a college anarchist movement from the 1970s.

These people have completely shut themselves off from observation of, and direct communication with, anyone who doesn't live in their twisted alternate universe. That goes double for the real world, which they seem to studiously ignore. How else could someone believe that global warming is the greatest threat to human existence, while openly welcoming invading hordes of foreigners who hate your guts and want to see you dead?

Like all liberals, it seems your brother is unwilling to honestly inform himself of the exact causes of conditions that are destroying his world. No, it's much better to analyze everything in life through the filter of your left-liberal, utopian world view.

That's why they fail, and will continue to fail, unless and until they find their way out.

Now we have to get rid of “broadcast media”. They are bad or worse than the papers.

They seem to think that these days, they can have a guest on, then tell them they are wrong or a liar.

Judging by the ratio of Libtards to anything else as far as faculty goes, our nation’s schools of journalism aren’t offering any relief whatsoever on the way.

We came away with two good things here.

Hillary will never ever be president, and she wanted it more than anything else in the world. And she will never get it.
We are spared an incredibly wicked selfish evil president Hillary.

Second, we have a non lawyer political outsider who is also a smart businessman as president, and he is far more comservative than he is liberal. He is an excellent choice for,the uniparty purge that needs to occur in both parties. Hopefull, ours first so that the dem socialists can be purged without mercy.

We need a slew of new environmental taxes on paper media. They just ran a story about how 1/3 of the trees are dead in cali and attributing under trump it will just get worse.

Tax print media for a paper use tax, and a paper bleaching tax. Plus a paper transporting tax, those, papers have to be driven to places for sales and people, drive cars to drop, them,on doorsteps, or puddles near doorsteps, or paper holders on mailbox posts. Lets start doing the same stuff libs do to things they want to get back at.

No mercy. No quarter. They give us none. They will then pass these taxes onto subscribers with higher rates and less will renew, dropping their income base.

Libs know this happens to the things they target. Now it is our turn.

No mercy, no quarter. They never had any for us.

Subscriptions go down in newspapers that print FAKE NEWS and give FAKE ENDORSEMENTS.

> I always thought that newspaper endorsements were stupid.

They betray the real purpose of newspapers, and the motivation of those who get into the business: to influence, not to inform.
