WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration on Wednesday finalized a rule that lets wind-energy companies operate high-speed turbines for up to 30 years even if means killing or injuring thousands of federally protected bald and golden eagles.
Under the new rule, wind companies and other power providers will not face a penalty if they kill or injure up to 4,200 bald eagles, nearly four times the current limit. Deaths of the more rare golden eagles would be allowed without penalty so long as companies minimize losses by taking steps such as retrofitting power poles to reduce the risk of electrocution.
The new rule will conserve eagles while also spurring development of a pollution-free energy source intended to ease global warming, a cornerstone of President Barack Obama's energy plan, said Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe.
"No animal says America like the bald eagle," Ashe said in a statement. He said the Fish and Wildlife Service is trying to balance energy development with eagle conservation.

What a sad commentary on the state of things.. no symbol of our nation is safe from the Left .. or the GReenies.
How many have already perished?
—
Reporting of eagle mortality is voluntary, and the Interior Department refuses to release the information.
Meanwhile, if an oil spill kills a single mallard, fine them a gazillion bucks.
Open season!!
But if you happen to pick up an eagle feather on the ground, its off to jail with you (unless you happen to be an Indian).
hence the need for the “exception”
I do hope President Trump has an alternative....
What a sad commentary on the state of things
Yep. Wind turbines are an inefficient non-cost effective way to generate electricity that come with a huge environmental costs of their own. Crony-capitalism at it’s worse and the same kind of idiocy that brought us the mercury filled lightbulbs that using current standards will make every landfill in America a superfund cleanup site.
In order to be “green” and therefore PC, these idiots sanction the horrible deaths of numerous birds which happen to be our national symbol. Just shows how full of ____ the dumbokrats are. In Jewish law, you are not permitted to violate one law in order to fulfill another. I wish the idiots in charge of this project would read up on that. And frankly, how much electricity is really generated by these bird abattoirs? Perhaps they should be dismantled or somehow altered to eliminate their capacity to kill birds.
I agree.
You know, they could put up very wide gauge mesh wire to keep the eagles and other birds out.
Why don’t they?
Are we also counting those that get injured and will never be able to fly again?
Thank God the eagles aren’t spotted owls </s>
Well, there's your explanation right there. Nobody hates America like Barky Obola.
Wouldn’t it make sense to say trap and relocate the eagles in the vicinity before they get whacked to death?
Perhaps a sonar-based system could detect an eagle approaching a turbine and flash an image of a fish onto the water a few hundred feet away.
The gophers have figured this out.
They build their colonies next to wind turbines
This weakens the base of the wind turbines and they fall over and crush the Spotted Owls who came to watch the war between the eagles and gophers.
The new rule will conserve eagles...
Liberal Logic 101
The eagles are symbols of a strong USA. Shred them! Kill them! Eliminate them! (probably a LIB motto)
Crap article in the local rag about how few birds there were, and how awful it was. Not a word about bammy allowing the damned wind turbines to slice birds to shreds.
Trump must kill the wind turbine industry. And order all turbines be removed no exception and the turbine industry must pay for removal.
