America is still struggling to overcome its "legacies of slavery, Jim Crow, colonialism, and racism," President Obama told Comedy Central Monday night. Appearing on "The Daily Show," Obama was asked about how he speaks to crowds about race. How does he "skirt that line between speaking your mind and sharing your true opinions on race whilst, at the same time, not being seen to alienate some of the people you are talking to," host Trevor Noah asked. "You know, my general theory is that, if I was clear in my own mind about who I was, comfortable in my own skin, and had clarity about the way in which race continues to be this powerful factor in so many elements of our lives," Obama said. "But that it is not the only factor in so many aspects of our lives, that we have, by no means overcome the legacies of slavery and Jim Crow and colonialism and racism, but that the progress we've made has been real and extraordinary, if I'm communicating my genuine belief that those who are not subject to racism can sometimes have blind spots or lack of appreciation of what it feels to be on the receiving end of that, but that doesn't mean that they're not open to learning and caring about equality and justice and that I can win them over because there is goodness in the majority of people."

What Obama has accomplished over the last 8 years, is to get increasing numbers of people to decide that there is nothing bad about having a low opinion about blacks in general.

Let me go backwards.. the words ‘racist’ and ‘racism’ although fictional, are only used by those that are bigoted and prejudiced; in other words used by those that fit the description invoked by the word ‘racist’ (beside the point I think a user of this word is either ignorant or a sophist).
Next, colonialism. jesus christ man based on what is available on the web regarding the education level of the overall American population; most Americans do not know what the word means yet alone anything about it and this applies to Jim Crow as well.
Now regarding slavery, good god man get over it. Every ethic group in the past has experienced slavery. And the philosophical argument has been debated since the first slave, or some 5,000+ f’king years. If humans really wanted to do something about it they would have. Quite lying to yourselves, the 3 oldest professions: prostitution, politics and slavery.
Good grief, some of these people in DC are so full of their own sh**, no wonder the place is a cesspool/swamp.
Obama has been a divider instead of a healer. Sometimes one can motivate with guilt, I suppose, but our nation has made such wonderful advances in race relations. I think we do far better almost always using positive affirmation to motivate toward greater accomplishment.
Obama hasn’t seen that yet....so he never will.
Many Americans voted for this guy in a landslide in 2008 thinking that by electing the first black president they were helping to put America’s slavery past behind. I didn’t vote for him but even I thought one of the benefits was that he would help make race relations better.
But here we are 8 years later under his “leadership” and race relations are worse than before. Surveys show more Americans, including more African-Americans, think race relations were better under George W Bush!
If after 50 years of affirmative action and now 8 years under a black president this guy says American is still racist, then when can we ever NOT be racist?
Maybe we should just accept that, in Hillary Clintons words, we are deplorable and irredeemable. We tried to stop being racist and it failed. Nothing we can do about it! Irredeemable!
So now can we cancel all the affirmative action nonsense and finally just give everybody equal rights?

No it hasn’t. One of our major political parties, the Democratic Party, still uses race hatred to whip up votes. Its a cancer on the country.
If America is “racist”, why do people from other countries want to come here so badly?

Tired of hearing about the special snowflakes being oh so victimized. This man is president of the most powerful country in the world for EIGHT years and he has the nerve to talk like the country still has a significant racial problem. I’ll tell you what....I have aspergers sydrome and have been misunderstood and treated poorly many times in my life and I don’t get any special platform to speak, privileges, or allowances made. I still have to work and get along with all different kinds of personalities, some which are simply faintly condescending and others which show pure contempt. Many struggle, but silently, because we realize that it will never be a fair and perfect world because human beings are flawed creatures.
Then, after trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of dead on battlefields and from crime, after tying ourselves in politically correct knots, it is time to stop trying.
We’ve overcome it. Obama and his minions choose to continue to wallow in it, but that’s their choice, screw em.
