AP: Huntsman among secretary of State possibilities © Getty President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly open to expanding his short list of candidates for secretary of State to include former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman.
Huntsman was one of the possibilities reported by The Associated Press on Saturday night, citing a source close to the Trump transition.
Huntsman, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, previously served as ambassador to China and speaks Mandarin.

Actually, Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney can’t stand each other. They are cousins, I believe, but are very competitive with each other and don’t like each other. If Huntsman gets it and Romney doesn’t, Mitt’s brain is going to be fried at the thought of his fellow Mormon relative whom he has had a bad family relationship with for years, gets chosen by Trump for SOS.
If Trump is truly out for revenge against Mitt Romney, then choosing Huntsman will make a mortal enemy of Trump out of Mitt. It will be a bridge too far and Mitt will take it as the ultimate humiliation. Interesting times.
LOL. Bolton was a high ranking official in the Bush administration. It won’t be him.
The job of secretary of state is not that important. Huntsman is probably fine for the position. He is a former governor, former ambassador to China and head of a major company in the US.
I would rather have Romney.

He did support Trump though, IIRC. But he’s a dasterdly RINO who flirted with leaving the party and he has ties to Red China.
Are there any non-globalists on Trump’s short list for this job? It makes me think Trump has a candidate picked who isn’t being talked about by anyone.
Someone on the Trump transition team is recommending people like Romney and Huntsman for Secretary of State. Probably the same person who recommended Nikki Haley for Ambassador to the U.N.
That’d be my pick, I just like the way the guy thinks. But evidently Trump is looking for something other than a traditional diplomat.
My guess is he wants someone who can lead the trade negotiations and make Trump’s vision come to life. That’s probably hard to find in a career diplomat and the people who might be good at it probably have no diplomatic experience.
He’s obviously looking for something different.
Nobody knows who is on Trump’s short list. What’s going on here is that someone on the transition team (probably Pence) is pulling for Huntsman and they leak this stuff to the press to try to gain traction.
