Breaking: Green Party withdraws PA recount demand
Hot Air.com ^ | December 3, 2016 | ED MORRISEY

Looks like Jill Stein has run out of cash. CBS’ Pittsburgh affiliate reports that the Green Party can’t raise the $1 million bond for the Pennsylvania recount, and has withdrawn their demand. And with that, the election is well and truly over:

The Green Party is dropping its court case seeking a recount of Pennsylvania’s Nov. 8 presidential election. It had wanted to explore whether voting machines and systems had been hacked and the election result manipulated.

The Green Party’s filing came Saturday, saying it couldn’t afford the $1 million bond the court had set. A Commonwealth Court hearing had been scheduled in the case for Monday, and the $1 million bond was due later that day.

Pennsylvania was by far the toughest state for the recall, with a final gap of around 56,000 votes. There was no chance that a recount would even come within an order of magnitude of that gap, but the Stein campaign had insisted that the Keystone State still needed to do a hand recount of every ballot.

That ends the campaign. Without taking Pennsylvania off the Electoral College table, Trump can’t lose. Even if Stein manages to force the electors from Wisconsin and Michigan to miss the safe-harbor deadline and the Electoral College on December 19th by tying up both states in useless recounting, Trump still has 280 electors and a clear victory.

Even with that, though, Wisconsin looks like it’s well on its way to finishing its recount on time. Its Day 3 results show that almost a third of Wisconsin precincts have completed their recounts, accounting for over 705,000 of the 2.975 million ballots cast in the presidential race. The net change has been to find 349 additional votes. Trump has gained 138 votes and Hillary Clinton 126, which means that Trump has extended his lead by 12 points. That’s, er, not exactly what Stein promised donors who coughed up millions for this stupid and futile gesture.

Update: The court in Pennsylvania has put an exclamation point on the subject of recounts:

AND NOW, this 3rd day of December, 2016, Petitioners having filed a Praecipe to Discontinue and Withdraw the above-captioned matter, the hearing scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. is CANCELLED, and the Chief Clerk is directed to mark this matter CLOSED.

That’ll do it.

Good to do list. I don’t see those four requirements as too much of an infringement on states rights.

I pity the poor county clerks and others in MI and WI being forced to pointlessly recount ballots, ridiculous.

Apparently people in India don’t fear being called racists.

If an election is one for a federal office I don’t think the state can stop the feds regulating it. If a state wants to run a crappy election for state offices that is their choice.

There is only 1 federal election and that is when the electors vote for POTUS.

The DEMs will never accept Trump’s presidency. They will be alternating between depression, denial, and anger during his entire time as POTUS.

If MI and WI were to lose their EVs due to Stein and the Green Party, I can only imagine how low their futures would be in those states.

No, Federalism IS shared power between the states and the federal governments.

Elections for federal office should all meet the same standard requirements no matter what state the election is held in. Statewide offices can use a different or the same standards.

Voter ID

No same day registration

Proof of Citizenship

Early Voting limited to shorter time frames.

How did the 17th amendment allowing direct election of senators in 1912 get passed if federalism was key to distributed powers with the 10th amendment staring at them all.

25,000 absentee ballots were requested but never sent out in Broward County alone.

So, who got fired or went to jail?

[25,000 absentee ballots were requested but never sent out in Broward County alone.]

Maybe they came in past the deadline.

This is Stein supporter - fake news site. The voter initiated recount deadline ended Nov. 21. She was able to get some precincts in three counties. A judge throw out the one in Montgomery and Philadelphia is complete with the absentee ballots counted. I think there is only one county with a few voter recounts. I don’t think they can get to 20,000 votes to reach the 0.5% threshold.

From the State: “Close Vote Margin:
Less than or equal to .5%

Close vote margin recounts are initiated by the Secretary of the Commonwealth and are only available for candidates or ballot questions “appearing on the ballot in every election district in [the] Commonwealth.” They are required when the margin is 0.5% or less of all votes cast for the office or ballot question. See 25 P.S. 3154(g)(1). Close vote margin recounts may also take place under a court’s jurisdiction. See 25 P.S. 3261 and 3262. Counties receive a reimbursement from the state for the recount. See 25 P.S. 3154(g)(8).

Because it followed the rules on passing a constitutional amendment.

And county election officials are reporting that 25,000 absentee ballots were requested but never sent out in Broward County alone.”””

Maybe those missing 25,000 absentee ballots are the ones the poll worker saw being filled out by mystery people in the secret room she accidently opened the door to. She signed an affidavit about what she saw & it was reported here on FR, but I heard nothing more about it.

Anyone have any other news about that incident? It was in Florida- but I don’t remember if it was Dade or Broward County,

Both counties have a history of voting problems.

IMO, this constant barrage of challenges to the voting results will cause Trump to clean up the voter rolls nationwide.
