We need a plan if Assad wins

The word “unacceptable” has been used a great deal in the context of the Syrian tragedy. Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons was branded “unacceptable” but there is evidence of their continued use after Western plans to bomb arms dumps were aborted. Then, it was “unacceptable” that President Assad would ever be part of the future of Syria. No peace deal would be countenanced while he remained in power. Yet, with Russian help, he may be on the verge of a military victory.
It has been apparent for some months that if anyone would eventually emerge as a “winner” in this bloody civil war it would be Assad. His forces have in recent days made significant advances in the key city of Aleppo, with insurgents reportedly abandoning positions held since 2012. This may not yet be the end game but Western countries need to prepare for that possibility, rather than continue to wish for a conclusion that they were unwilling to bring about and is now not going to happen ? the removal of Assad.

Assad has Turkey, the US, and Saudi Arabia all scheming for something. It’s time just to jump partnerships in the region and just exit. Let them do their game by themselves.
A secular strongman in the Middle East? It beats the alternative. Let’s focus on growing our economy.
Let’s see, Obama, Hillary, Kerry and crew have armed , aided and abetted the headchoppers. The best a Trump administration could do is assist in the snuffing out of headchoppers. Perhaps some humanitarian aid once the dust settles. Obama has left a yuge mess over there. Death, ruination, misery, the stock of dealing with O-bung hole.
The focus should have been on Iran. That is the key to taking out Russia and Syria’s power but many of the countries that are upset at what is going on in Syria supported the Iran deal.

They probably want Assad out for something besides ‘helping out the world’ and ‘being a force for our values’
It would be quite a trick to salvage something good out of the smoking ruin of a society in Syria, that Obama leaves in his wake (Iraq and Libya as well).
By the time Trump comes into office, Eastern Aleppo could well have fallen to the regime, putting Assad in a much better position.
We do need a deal in Syria.
When Assad wins. Come January 20 he'll have both the U.S. and Russia in his corner, along with Iran. His opponents won't be able to stand up against that.

So what if Assad is under the “ sway” of Russia and Iran? It puts grown ups in charge to contain Turkey and Saudi Arabia

Assad is winning and will come out of this conflict with a much stronger popular support than before. The radical opponents will be worm fodder, the squishy cowards have fled, the minorities have seen that they need him for their durvival, the average Syrian has seen up close the alternative and will never think again of going down that road.
Surely Russia, Iran, Hezbollah and the Kurds will have more to say... without Shia manpower, Russian arms and expertise and Kurds fighting against the jihadis on other fronts, Assad would not be where he is today.
The inevitable outcome will be a much diminished power of the Saudis, Qataris and Turks. Of course in their fits of anger they will try to create as much chaos in Syria as possible and save any shred of influence they still think they have.
It will be a bitter pill to swallow for the West and Israel... who have shortsightedly banked on toppling or destabilizing Assad. They will now have to come to terms with him.
But better with him than with a jihadi ‘caliph’.

The Ghouta sarin attack was fired from an opposition-controlled area into an opposition-controlled area. We know this because the drum-like sarin warheads have a severely limited range.

Yup. Here is my prediction on the Trump Plan for Syria:
1. U.S. teams with Russia to secure Syria and the Assad regime.
2. Russia teams with U.S. to wipe out ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
3. (Maybe) Russia cooperates with the U.S. to put the clamps on the Iran nuclear program. (The Art of the Deal gets a real test.)
Result: Lots of dead ISIS fighters. Fewer terrorist attacks in the U.S. and Europe. Libs go crazy. Saudi Arabia goes crazy. Turkey goes crazy.
When all your opponents are either dead or out of the country it'd be kind of hard not to have popular support
No, what we need is to GTFO of Syria’s civil war and let the sovereign government reestablish control over its landmass. Had we stayed out of that mess in the first place, the possibility of ISIS establishing a base of operations in Raqqa would’ve been far more remote.
Assad’s most vociferous opponents control vast swathes of Syria. They are at war with not only Assad, but with humanity - they have been carrying out unspeakable atrocities for years.
It’s ok that they don’t get a vote.

That’s my hope and prediction. It would be the only sane option.
Cooperating with Russia against rabid Sunni jihadis (our common foe) will give plenty of political leverage to put pressure on Iran on the nuclear issue.
As to our ‘allies’ in the region:
1. Israel gets assurances from USA and Russia. Don’t let the neocons and uber-Zios push us into a war with Iran. Russia and China are deeply invested in Iran’s defense and in any case the global security situation would spiral totally out of control. This is a lose-lose for everyone except the Sunni jihadis.
2. Screw the Saudis.
3. Tell the Turks to behave and to cut out the hubris of a new Ottoman Empire.
4. Help Sisis Egypt become the chief Western ally in the wider Arabic spealing world. They are on good terms with Assad, Iran AND Israel.
p.s.: the US doesn’t actually have to engage actively in Syria. Just stop putting stones in Assads road to victory and cut the foreign support for the jihadi terrorists.
