Police: Woman Pickpocketed People Waiting For ‘Hamilton’ Stars Outside Richard Rodgers Theatre
CBS New York ^ | November 27, 2016 | Staff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police on Sunday were searching for a woman they said pickpocketed multiple people who were outside waiting to see the performers from the Broadway smash “Hamilton” in Midtown.

Between May 25 and Nov. 6, six people reported having their property removed as they waited for the stars of “Hamilton” outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre, 226 W. 46th St.

The suspect used the victims’ credit cards to buy about $2,200 worth of merchandise at Macy’s, Junior’s Restaurant, Rite Aid, Target, Designer Shoe Warehouse, Burlington Coat Factory, and Duane Reade, police said.

“That’s very surprising. I wouldn’t expect something to happen like that,” Julia Allman of Pennsylvania told CBS2’s Tracee Carrasco.

“I think it’s awful that there’s those kinds of people out in the world that want to take advantage of people,” said Jamie Marlowe of Pittsburgh. . .The suspect was described as a black female with black hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, a gray sweater, black pants, and a gray scarf, police said. . .

When I was traveling overseas, we were well aware of pickpockets. I was in Knightsbridge with several other flight attendants and we were in the middle of a huge crowd. I happened to look down and saw a black arm snaking around me. I had my pocketbook strap around my neck and was clasping it close but didn’t feel a thing. He had it unzipped. I wrapped my arms around myself and my purse and said out loud, “Something has happened!” Suddenly the black guy beside me screamed ai yiyiyiyiyi and the entire crowd dispersed, leaving just us flight attendants. Nothing was taken, thankfully.

One man we met was traveling with his mother and he looked a little, well, slow. Very sweet but you could tell he might have been a little developmentally delayed. He was excited to tell us that he was pickpocketed of all of his money but they left him and his mother 2 subway tokens.

The pickpockets are that good at what they do.

rofl!

Good place to make a fortune if you’re good at it.

Many Tourists come from areas where pickpockets might not flourish.

Any NYer knows you keep your hand in your wallet pocket and your pocketbook held TIGHTLY.

They go for the soft targets.

Having spent a long time in Naples, Italy, I can tell you that is about par for the course, or used to be!

Dopey, bigoted and hatefull progressives were vigilent and watching for the “awful” white pickpockets, and oblivious to the black pickpocket

A friend had someone try to pick his pocket in NYC; he had his wallet in the back pocket of army pants, and the perp had cut the two buttons off when my friend realized what was up. Never saw the perp, kept his wallet, but was missing both buttons...incredible.

Did said pickpocket distract the line-waiters regaling about how she would garner recounts in certain states? Does J.S. have an alibi for that night?

I got pickpocketed on a train platform in Naples last March.

Gypsies, they're pros.........

My nephew had his wallet picked when he was on a train platform in Spain. A gypsy woman casually strolled towards him with a baby in her arms then at the last minute, she appeared to trip and the baby flew out of her arms. While my nephew was able to catch the baby, that distraction was all it took for her accomplice to get his wallet.

When he finally realized it was gone, so were they........

About 25 years ago, my wallet got lifted. No cash or credit cards so I wasn’t really concerned.

A few months later, I got a letter from the State warning me that I had racked up ten points on my license and was in danger of losing my driving privileges. Since I had never gotten a traffic citation, I called the State and got in touch with an investigator. A cop buddy also got involved.

It turns out some guy got my license and went to the Secretary of State and somehow got himself a new license with his photo and my name.

I saw his criminal record. The guy was about the worst driver ever. He was paying the fine but not taking the points.

I had to go to court to prove my identity for one ticket. I had to slightly change my name on the license so I’d get issued a new license number and car insurance was fun for a while. No extra cost, just had to prove I was the good guy.

We never did catch him. Funny part, I got pulled over (57 in a 40 on a 25 mph marked curve-Personal best) and when I got the ticket, I asked the officer why he didn’t arrest me?

He said he didn’t call me in and asked why. I told him there was a flag on my license to try to catch the bad guy.

I use small handbags with long shoulder straps worn
bandolero style across my chest and keep it simple with
no billfold. (Just hung loose over a shoulder it’s too easy
to grab and run with it.)

Husband just sticks cash in his side pocket which may just
be careless; but works fairly well.

I don’t carry much cash; but it’s the driver’s license &
a few credit cards I’d hate to have stolen; also voter ID.

That’s what they call a ‘handling’ charge.

This story is a lot less than what it sounded from the headlines.

I’ve seen these after-show crowds — dozens of people bumping each other, you’d never notice a pickpocket. I assumed the story would be that one night some lady robbed a dozen or more people.

But the actual story? 6 people. Over 7 months. Less than one a month. I bet there are multiple people pick-pocketed every day in New York. THis is a non-story.

Sounds like fun. I can think of several substances that they would just love to get on their skin, as well as several bioactive creams, pocket mouse traps, and pressure triggered hypodermic needles full of wonderful solutions that might let them live an hour, in my purse.( Grin)
