A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum Calexit on the 2018 ballot.
The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:
A yes vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.
Another yes vote would require the governor of the newly minted Republic of California to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Ironically Clinton created workfare in ‘96 and it worked quite well.
In July 2012, Obama pretty much dismantled workfare, and look where we are today.
Most of the public sector growth in employees has come at the state and local level. Federal employees has not grown substantially for the last 50 yrs. It seems to hover around 3 million people. Hence, the fedemployee per citizen is dropping.
Israel is good model for a government.
For the last 8 years Benjamin Netanyahu has been the leader of the Free World.
Donald Trump brings that job back to the USA in Jan next year!
Can some strategically placed explosives make it an island, more difficult for escape from in three years?
My ancestors were by and large too poor to “own” slaves.
In fact, THEY worked like slaves themselves.
My Cotham ancestors lived in Georgia Indian Territory in
the late 1700’s on a plantation and had slaves. My fifth
great grandfather married a Cherokee woman; my sixth great
grandmother pitched a fit. His daddy gave him his
inheritance in gold and he and my fifth great grandmother
boarded a riverboat and came up the Tinase River to a
little town there. My second great grandfather was a
lightskeeper on the Tinase (Tennessee) River. I still
have his Smith & Wesson revolver that he carried in his
job. Tough customers on that river. Would rob you, kill
you and leave your body on the river bank.
But a country like Israel can? You are making no sense.
Only Illinois has more debt/income than California among the states. Without Federal tax dollars California will go bankrupt.
Hope its not too hard to make sense of that.
If debt is a disqualification to lose the right to be a country then all of Europe would be stateless.
collaborating in their own destruction... unfortunately the GOPe/Bush Republicans join them in this.
“If California did secede, how long before it would be reabsorbed by Mexico “
My part of SoCal already has been.
Okay, well it’s getting to be a dogfight between La Raza and Islam and The 2nd Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere but you get the idea.
We are Post-America here and until and unless there is a dramatic change in our immigration and deportation policy this will not change, except in how fast it spreads to the rest of the country.
And you are absolutely right in your description of what the La Raza pendejos really want.
We have endless shIt load in CA.
Yeah, until some crackpot judge overrules the majority of the CA voters (remember Props. 187 and 8). /sarc
Don’t be such a cynic.../S
Lol...that works.
We usually have plenty of water in N California and the big valley.
Time to shut off the aqueducts taking it to LaRaza, aka formerly LA.
“The 2nd Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere!”
You bring up another interesting factor in Californicator Land’s future. The hard working Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere which would include India and SE Asia.
The hardworking and often very/very intelligent Asians in California have suffered discrimination since the 1850’s.
Their college age kids have been discriminated against re admittance since we have been in California (early 1970’s) in spite of their excellent academic achievements.
Interesting times we live in.
